QuakeCon 2011 will kick off on Thursday, August 4th, with the requisite keynote address by id mastermind John Carmack, co-founder and Technical Director of id Software.

In addition to getting your hands on all manner of id material and videogames, such as a playable Rage, many other games will be playable for the first time by the public!

During the show, attendees will have the opportunity to see Todd Howard, Game Director of Bethesda Game Studios, present the award-winning The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim publicly for the first time.

QuakeCon will also see the first public demo of the highly-acclaimed Prey 2, which will be demoed by Chris Rhinehart, Project Lead at Human Head Studios.

In addition to being able to play RAGE on the show floor, attendees will be able to check out a special presentation of the award-winning shooter given by Matt Hooper, the game’s Design Director.

Here is the latest behind-the-scenes Rage video from the six-part developer diary called “The Dawn”.

In this video the team at id Software talk about creating the story behind RAGE and discuss the destruction of civilization as well as the characters and enemies you will encounter in the wasteland.

RAGE features intense first-person shooter action, breakneck vehicle combat, an expansive world to explore and jaw-dropping graphics powered by id’s revolutionary id Tech™ 5 technology. Set in the not-too-distant future after an asteroid impacts Earth, you emerge into a vast wasteland to discover humanity working to rebuild itself against such forces as bandit gangs, mutants, and more. RAGE promises an experience like no other.

The event remains FREE to general admission and BYOC attendees thanks to the support of id and Bethesda Softworks, as well as the QuakeCon volunteer staff and the 2011 event sponsors and exhibitors. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim combat, leveling, races detailed

Skyrim screenshot gameplay (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
A metric ton of new details on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim have been revealed thanks to Game Informer, which featured the game as their coverstory.

So much info in fact that it is easiest to break it down into smaller, simpler to digest chunks. Which is what I’ll try to attempt in this massive list. The game will be released on November 11, 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Here are all-new details on the game:

  • No class selection at the start.
  • Every skill you level adds to your overall level.
  • After leveling, choose from additional health, magic or stamina, along with new perks.
  • No 50-level cap, instead you advance slower as you progress.
  • 18 total skills. Mysticism and others were cut.
  • 10 total Races to choose from.
  • 5 Schools of Magic to choose from: Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion and Restoration.
  • Morrowind had 27 skills, Oblivion 21.
  • You can specialize or dabble in all skills.
  • Set 200 years after Oblivion. Dragons have returned. As Civil War rages, you must stop the Dragon God as the destined Dragonborn.
  • Developers promise combat is more “dynamic and tactical” than before. Focus was on improving combat and the feel of weapons in your hands.
  • Each hand can be assigned a function.
  • Sprinting is now possible, depletes Stamina.
  • Quests will be more dynamic and modified based on how you’ve built your character, you skills and your decisions.
