F-Zero 99 How To Get A Speed Boost Start
Speed Boost Method 1:
Hold off on hitting the gas until just a moment before the green “GO!!” text appears on-screen at the start of a race. Although you’ll hop off the starting line a bit slower, but you’ll makeup for it soon enough as you’ll reach your top speed notably quicker giving you the edge as soon as 1.5 second into the race.
Note: If you see smoke coming from your racing car, then you hit the gas button too soon. Just make sure you don’t wait until the “GO!!” text appears, otherwise you’ll be too late.
Speed Boost Method 2:
A more risky option is to do the preemptive start and hold L or R and let the opponent hit you from the back for the best outcome. The idea is that you use the initial boost to get in front of the other racers, then get hit from behind for another boost, to take pole position.
Tip: Or you can use the LZ and RZ buttons, because those move you left and right without making a big turn. It may even give you a better boost compared to Boost Method 1, especially since it can get you in front of the top players and slow them down while accelerating you!
