Level Up Method:
Like all games, experience is necessary to level up your character in Baldur’s Gate 3, which unlocks skills, spells, and additional power with each level gained. Any opportunity to gain experience is a welcome sight in Baldur’s Gate 3, especially if that experience is essentially free to obtain. In this video, I discuss an important unit to kill to gain a free 150 experience at the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3.
It easy to miss out on the opportunity to gain 150 experience. At the beginning of Baldur’s Gate 3, you are making your way through a ship in order to escape. At the helm, there is a raging and bloody fight. After defeating a few enemies, Commander Zhalk is left fighting with a mind flayer. Instead of asking for help with the demon, the mind flayer urges you to bypass the fight and make your way to the head of the helm to escape before the ship goes down. Lae’zel also agrees with the mind flayer that escaping is the priority. So, it is easy to miss out on the 150 experience boost to your characters.

More XP Rewards:
Not only this rewards you with a lot of XP, over half way to level 3, but also 2 decent medium armor pieces (better than Shadowheart starting armor, but worse than the Lae’Zel armor), 2 common greatswords, Zhalk flaming greatsword (the 3rd best one you can find in-game) and other consumables and gold. It’s a great way to start a run.
- Grab the brain companion (Us) at the first room after the starting room. Helps in the fight.
- At the human you transform using the pod controls, use a Caustic Buld (throw it close to the pod) to kill the newborn Illithid. It gives 75 XP.
- Kill Zhalk.
- Kill the Cambions alongside the Mindflayer. But when you notice the Mindflayer is close to die (10 to 5 HP left), force attack him, so it gives you the kill XP.
Weapon Drop Tip: If you have a Cleric level 1, the Command spell will allow you to command an enemy to drop their weapon.
