RIP Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop. Today is its Final Day!
This is a friendly reminder that today is the final day you can buy games off the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShop. As long as you have your Nintendo account linked on both your 3DS/Wii U and Switch with a payment method, you can still add money to your shared account on the Switch and buy whatever you like on the older systems. Use this All-time Top 100 3DS games list & Wii U games list to see if anything’s missing.
While most of the best Wii U games have been ported to Switch (except the Kirby’s Epic Yarn game and the first Splatoon & Mario Maker games), it’s a different story for the 3DS, because of it’s unique 3DS screen it has a lot of games that are best enjoyed on there.
I must’ve spend a few hundred on the 3DS eShop this past weekend! Focusing mainly on 3DS games with the best 3DS effects like the 3D Sega Classics and well-reviewed digital-only (indie and experimental Nintendo) titles you won’t be able to get anymore after the store closes. If you liked playing 3DS games in 3D, it just cannot be emulated elsewhere. The above linked Top 100 lists most of them. It’s also worth picking up any of the Top 100 games if they interest you, including all the big AAA titles from Nintendo, Sega, Capcom & Square-Enix as they really held the system together.
As for games that also have physical releases, you better be quick about picking up your favorites off eBay, Amazon, etc. because they are no doubt about to increase in price. The craziest example I saw was of the 3D Sega Classic triple pack that’s going for $300 internationally, because the third physical release has a lot of games that didn’t even get an eShop release.
