God of War TV Series Coming To Amazon Prime

The Amazon Prime Video streaming service has greenlit a “God of War” TV series! The Hollywoodreporter has reported that “Wheel of Time” showrunner Rafe Judkins and “Children of Men”, “Iron Man” & “The Expanse” creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby are adapting the award-winning PlayStation game series into a TV show. Development only started in March 2022, so no release date plans yet.

The story: The TV show will start off with the God of War (2018) series reboot. Meaning it follows Kratos attempting to leave his Greece Gods past (as the God of War obviously) behind him in the Norse realm of Midgard.

To quote: Amazon Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said “God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate our global customers as much with its expansive and immersive worlds as its rich storytelling. We are honoured to share in the adventure of exploring the God of War mythology in such a momentous way with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio.”

Cast: No cast members were announced yet. Who should play Kratos? His voice actor Christopher Judge?

Take a look how that would look in the motion capture studio footage. This Behind-the-Scenes video showcases motion capture actors Christopher Judge as Kratos and Sunny Suljic as Atreus.

Are you excited for a God of War TV show?

With producers Sony Pictures Television & Amazon Studios joining hands with PlayStation Productions, it would seem the series is in good hands. Let’s be cautiously optimistic as we wait for HBO’s The Last of Us TV series to come out early 2023. And, yes, I did quite enjoy the big action scenes in the Paramount+ Halo TV series. So keep these TV game-adaptions coming, as far as I’m concerned.

Raising Kratos documents the five-year, herculean effort to reinvent one of the greatest stories in gaming, God of War. Facing an unknown future, Santa Monica Studio took a massive risk, fundamentally changing their beloved franchise and re-establishing their rightful place in video game history. More than just a “making of,” this cinematic journey of second chances rooted in family, sacrifice, struggle and doubt follows game director Cory Barlog and those who chase perfection in art and storytelling. Witness the incredible defeats, the unpredictable outcomes and the down-to-the-wire tension on full display in this true-life redemption story.
