Here’s how to access Sonic Origins’ level select cheats and other secrets in Sonic, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 + Knuckles, plus how to find the Hidden Palace Zone in Sonic 2.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 Cheats

Sonic 1 Level Select Cheat: On the title screen, when the words ‘Press Button’ appear, press: Up, Down, Left, Right. If done correctly, you’ll hear a ring chime. Then press the X button (on an Xbox controller), Square button (on a PlayStation controller), or Y button (on a Switch controller).

Choose this to access the level select, as well as various cheats that let you play as Sonic and Tails together, activate the Spindash move, turn off damage from spikes, activate shield items from other Sonic games, and turn down the number of (6 or 7) Chaos Emeralds the game requires you to collect.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Cheats

Sonic 2 Level Select Cheat: On the title screen, when the words ‘Press Button’ appear, press: Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right. You’ll hear a ring chime. Then press the X button (on an Xbox controller), Square button (on a PlayStation controller), or Y button (on a Switch controller).

Choose this to access the level select, including the new completed Hidden Palace Zone. While you cannot play it right away, you can unlock it by starting to play Mystic Cave Zone – Act 2, keep going right-down throughout the level until you come across a pit with a vine over it that you can drop down into. This is the secret exit to Hidden Palace Zone.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Cheats

Sonic 3 Level Select Cheat: On the title screen, when the words ‘Press Button’ appear, press: Up, Up, Down, Down, Up, Up, Up, Up. If done correctly, you’ll hear a ring chime. Now press any button and move the cursor down to find a hidden ‘Sound Test’ option.

Choose this to access the level select, including the new Blue Spheres stages and Competition stages.

Super Sonic Cheats

Sonic 1, 2 & 3 Super Sonic Cheat: In the above mentioned level select menu, where you can play sounds as well, play these sounds in this order: 04, 01, 02, 06. If done correctly, you’ll hear a ring chime. Which is the sound you hear when you collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds normally.

You’re required to have at least 50 rings collected in each Sonic game. Then jump into the air, and while in the air press: the X button (on an Xbox controller), Square button (on a PlayStation controller), or Y button (on a Switch controller).

Note: In Sonic 1 this requires you to use the level select menu to set the Chaos Emeralds be set to 7 for it to work. (Instructions above.)
