How To Possess Enemies

How to possess enemies: The first location in the game where using Abe’s possession ability becomes mandatory is The Ruins level and Abe can possess enemies by chanting and then leading the glowing Chi Orb towards them.

Once you have taken over a Slig’s mind you have multiple commands at your disposal – you can move the Slig, interact with the environment, use the weapon (R2), stun the enemy you’re controlling (press L2) or make the Slig explode (hold L2). If you’ve chosen to knock someone out don’t forget to pickpocket them and tie them up if possible. Follow the video to clear the area or use your own methods of eliminating and stunning enemies.

Note: Possession isn’t available if there’s a chant suppressor nearby. You will have to move further away or rely on other ways of eliminating or distracting enemies (like stun mines).

How To Use Stun Mines

How to use Stun Mines: The IED Stun Mines become available to Abe soon after entering the cave complex in The Ruins level. You can find new mines as loot or (later on) craft them yourself. They have to be chosen from the inventory (hold Triangle). You have to aim the mine (use the right analogue stick) and then throw it (press R2).

The mine itself doesn’t attract enemies, but you can make them start patrolling the area by creating noise or using chanting with a chant suppressor nearby. Follow the route from the video to use the stun mines on all Sligs and don’t forget that you can throw them even when you’re hanging by the ledge (It’s a much safer way than reaching the platform with the enemy you want to stun.). Try to approach each enemy you knock out as soon as possible to pickpocket them and to tie them up if you have some rope with you.

Note: Chanting near chant suppressor on purpose can be a good tactic of alerting Sligs so that they’ll start patrolling the area (instead of standing in one place and not moving). It will make it easier for them to come in contact with the stun mines you’ve prepared.

How To Unlock 2 Secret Levels & All Endings

How to unlock 2 secret levels:

Soulstorm has 15 core levels, with two additional levels at the end of the game if you are good at saving Mudokons (making 17 levels total). There are four types of endings in the game. At the end of each individual level, you receive a Quarma score based on the number of Mudokons you save.  You must save at least 80% of the Mudokons in a level to achieve a good score, but technically you don’t have to save any to progress through the game’s 15 core levels. But this 80% score is vital if you want to unlock secret levels 16 and 17.

How to unlock all endings:

  • Worst Ending – Save 80% of the Mudokons in 6 levels, or fewer.
  • Bad Ending – Save 80% of Mudokons in 7 to 11 levels. Prepare for an explosive cinematic.
  • Good Ending – Save 80% of Mudokons in 12 or more levels. This unlocks an additional cinematic and access to levels 16 and 17.
  • Final Ending – Save 80% of Mudokons in all 17 levels. Sit back and enjoy the “newspaper cinematic.”

How To Unlock Level Select

How to unlock Level Select:

Once you finish the game, you unlock Level Select. This mode allows you to replay any level you want, as much as you want. It allows you to replay levels to improve your Quarma score and earn more badges. More importantly, if you didn’t unlock the ending you wanted, you can replay the levels to try to save more Mudokons.

But like all Oddworld games, you should expect a challenge. In Level Select if you die, don’t worry, you will respawn at the nearest check point. But there are no save points. You must play the entire level all the way through to earn your new Quarma score and badges.

At the end of each level, you are given a Quarma score. This score is based on the number of Mudokons you save vs. those that died or were missed, as well as earned badges. The more Mudokons you save, the higher your Quarma score. You can upload your scores to the leaderboards to see where you rank against other Soulstorm players.

Secret Area Locations

How to find Secret Areas: Look for empty green Soulstorm bottles, as they indicate there’s a Secret Area on the screen. Beforehand do a Quicksave and then start doing leaps of faith and rolling into every dark place to find the nearby Secret Area.
