A new Fable Game is Reportedly in the Works at Playground Games

Forza Horizon developer Playground Games is developing a new entry in the Fable series, according to a Eurogamer report citing “sources close to the project.”

The new Fable is said to be a story and character-focused open-world action RPG. Significant investment is planned to be put into its development, with around 200 people set to work on the game at Playground’s newly established Leamington Spa, Warwickshire studio.

The game is said to be in its early days of development, with the studio currently in the double digits staff-wise and hiring to reach its triple digit target.

While all Fable assets from Lionhead Studios, the shuttered former developer of the Fable series, have been backed up, the new Fable is expected to be starting from scratch.

Microsoft’s rekindled interest in the Fable franchise was reportedly partly inspired by the success of Sony’s Horizon: Zero Dawn for PlayStation 4, which sold 3.4 million copies.
