SteamWorld Heist Release Date Announced. Debuts on 3DS. Later on PC, PS4, XBO, Wii U, PSVita, iOS

SteamWorld Heist has a release date of December 10, 2015 exclusively for 3DS. After debuting on 3DS, the game will then hit other platforms including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation Vita, PC, and iOS. Exactly when it will hit what platforms is still up in the air, but you can probably expect it sometime in early 2016. Priced at $20 (€20 / £15), early adopters who buy the game before January 1, 2016 will receive both a discount (€16.99 / £11.99) and an exclusive SteamWorld Heist Home Menu Theme, a theme that will disappear after the New Year begins, at which point the game will also be full-price.

“SteamWorld Heist” is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Indie Game “SteamWorld Dig”, from developer “Image & Form”. SteamWorld Dig, meanwhile, was the follow-up to “SteamWorld Tower & Defense“, a 2010 DSiWare game for DS & 3DS (The only other game the developers made is the mobile game “Anthill“).

SteamWorld Dig meanwhile, started on 3DS in 2013, but was such a hit that it was then ported to PC/Mac/Linux via Steam on December 5, 2013; then hit Sony platforms PS4 & PSVita on March 18, 2014; followed by Wii U on August 28, 2014 and finally, Xbox One on June 5, 2015. Now, we have SteamWorld Heist, rolling out first on 3DS (definitely as a thank-you to Nintendo’s grand support) on December 10, 2015.

SteamWorld Heist is not a “Action Adventure Platformer” like SteamWorld Dig. Like the first game being “Tower Defense”, the genre has changed once again in Heist, while keeping the same universe. This time, Image & Form have tackled the “Turn-Based Strategy Genre”.

STEAMWORLD HEIST SYNOPSIS

Prepare for boarding! SteamWorld Heist is a space adventure with turn-based tactical shootouts, where you aim in real time and perform awesome bullet-bouncing trick shots.

From the Makers of SteamWorld Dig
Join Captain Piper Faraday, smuggler and occasional pirate, as she recruits a rag-tag team of steam-driven robots and sets out on a daring adventure. With your hearty crew you’ll board, loot and shoot your way through enemy spaceships. Overcome the challenges of the vast frontier by upgrading your robots with unique abilities, weapons – and even stylish hats!

Strategy Focused On Skill
SteamWorld Heist focuses on skill rather than dice rolls. You’re in charge of aiming and can bounce bullets off the environment for cool trick shots.

If you’re new to turn-based strategy, SteamWorld Heist is a great place to start. And veterans will enjoy the depth and challenge of the game’s higher difficulty levels.

Key SteamWorld Heist Features:

* Turn-based strategy focused on skill rather than chance.

* Aim freely and bounce bullets to perform clever trick shots.

* Master 100+ weapons.

* Kind to newcomers, deep and challenging for veterans.

* Randomly generated levels.

* Steampunk tunes by legendary Steam Powered Giraffe.

* Fearsome bosses and a playful narrative.

Tons of weapons will be available in the game, over 100!

SteamWorld Heist is looking just as fantastic, if not moreso, than SteamWorld Dig!

And that’s saying something!

I love the fact that these guys are continuing to build on their Steampunk world and brand with each game, while also trying out different genres.

This means you never know what curveball they’ll throw at you next!
