Here we’ll go over how you can speed up the process of leveling up your rank at the start of the DLC.

Ranking up fast to increase your level quickly can be done through these tasks:

While with Destiny: Taken King you won’t be able to reach the maximum level in one day, here’s how to level up to 40 fast, as well as level up the 3rd Subclass without the Grind & Legendary Marks.

These 6 tasks are aimed at getting your level up the new way*, which — if your character level was maxed out at Level 34 before the The Taken King DLC — in turn will bring you to Level 40!

*After the Destiny: The Taken King 2.0 Patch, you will no longer level up by equipping armor with Light, but instead you’ll need to gain Experience Points (XP).

Note: To see how far along you are, check the level progress bar at the heads-up display (HUD) bottom-side to see how much XP is needed to reach your next level.

Tip: Before you go after any XP rewards, make sure you stock up on the Focused Light consumable, which when used will increase any XP you earn by a factor 50% for half an hour long; So make sure it’s active when for example you’re about to complete a Story Mission or Daily Heroic! – As the description reads, Focused Light will aid you on your adventures, increasing all XP gains for a short duration.

1. Complete Bounties for XP: You can now tackle up to 16 Bounties (Crucible, Vanguard, you name it), which will each bring plenty of XP (if you select 5,000+ XP Bounties) as you turn them in for your reward. In fact, you’ll want to go for around 100,000 XP to level up to 40.

2. Complete Public Events: Every day you can access a Public Event (on each character), which upon completion will net you a package reward. Claim it at the Postmaster to receive loot including 2,500 XP.

3. Drink Red Bull: Firstly, Red Bull Energy Drink cans from 7-Eleven stores in the United States and Canada don’t just include an exclusive new Quest code, each code on the Red Bull can will also give you bonus XP.
Secondly, Destiny-branded 4-packs of Red Bull will be available exclusively at Walmart that contain a Mega XP Accelerator.

4. Use the Spark of Light: This is a bit of a cheat, but it’s part of the game, so it’s a valid suggestion… Upon installing Destiny: The Taken King, you’ll receive a Spark of Light consumable from the Postmaster at the Tower to level up any character you want to Level 25 instantly. This will obviously help speed up the process of getting a new character to Level 40.

5. Complete all of the Story Missions: Progressing the storyline will unlock XP too for each Story Mission you finish.

6. Complete the Weekly Nightfall Strike Mission: Teaming up with friends to finish the latest Weekly Nightfall Strike Mission will give you a chance to win extra XP.

Upon reaching Level 40, on your character screen the game will prompt a message saying how to proceed afterwards. To quote:
“You have reached Level 40.
This is the current max Level. However, you can still increase your Light by equipping armor with higher Defense and weapons with higher Attack.
Earning XP now creates Motes of Light at regular intervals.
(Progress bar shows how far you have to go to reach the next Mote of Light.)”
