Various all-new “Amiibo Cards” will launch alongside the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game as the latest addition to the “amiibo phenomenon” that Nintendo started with their Super Smash Bros. Amiibo figures (which has grown to include Yoshi’s Woolly World plushie amiibo & amiibo figures for Mario characters, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Mario’s 30th Anniversary & most recently, Shovel Knight).

Tapping compatible Amiibo Cards while playing Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer is a quick-and-easy way to meet your favorite Animal Crossing characters with their separate personalities and design requests in the game. Instead of waiting for them to randomly appear, you can now simply tap the one you want via your amiibo card and they’ll appear in the game then-and-there! Just like magic! Huzzah!

The Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards also launch on September 25, 2015 and cost $6 per pack for six cards ($1 per card essentially). It’s worth noting that say, Pokemon TCG cards, cost about $3 for ten cards. So it will be up to you to decide whether the pretty-significant money-investment is worth it.

There will be 100 Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards in the set, and among the six random cards per pack, you will get one “special” card. Collector’s take note! And get ready to cry that wallet CRY!

That’s because not only are there 100+ Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards to collect, but these 100 are part of “Wave 1”, with Wave 2, Wave 3 & Wave 4 planned for the future.

And finally, the long-awaited “Amiibo Reader” for non “New 3DS” systems (officially called the “Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer Accessory”; say that three-times-fast), hits stores on September 25th, 2015 at a cost of $20. A bundle that also includes a physical copy of the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer game, the Amiibo Reader & an Amiibo Card will also launch the same day at a cost of $50.

This accessory is a device that allows non “New 3DS” systems to take advantage of Amiibo, whether it be Amiibo figures for use in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, or Amiibo Animal Crossing cards as mentioned above.

3DS Amiibo Reader Accessory

This is a great development as many fans thought the Amiibo Reader accessory would never actually see the light of day.

Thankfully, the legions of 3DS, 2DS & 3DS XL owners, who’ve yet to upgrade to the “New 3DS XL” will finally be able to use amiibo! Yay!

And don’t forget there is the recently announced “New 3DS”, smaller size, launching with the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer 3DS system bundle on September 25th!
