Final Fantasy: Portable App with Final Fantasy VIII‘s Triple Triad Card Game included has been announced for iOS & Android, Square Enix revealed.
Here’s an introduction video to Triple Triad taken from the PS1 edition of Final Fantasy VIII, for those who’ve never heard of this awesome cardgame before.
Not a game, Portable App is a tool that Final Fantasy & Square Enix fans can use to gain up-to-date news & information, trailers & videos, screenshots, etc. on new & upcoming Square Enix titles directly from the source, as well as access fun stuff like Artwork & Wallpaper.

Fans will also be able to use Final Fantasy Portable App to participate in events, check out or purchase all manner of Final Fantasy-related products, goods, books, music, merchandise and other material (digitally or physically), earn points for your Square Enix ID profile that they can use to buy exclusive merch and participate in contests.
Another really cool feature of Final Fantasy Portable App is called “Topic Corner”, it will feature all manner of Final Fantasy walkthroughs, exclusive interviews with the creators of highly anticipated upcoming Final Fantasy games (like Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy Agito & Final Fantasy: Type-0 HD) and fun polls that fans can vote in to say, find out who the most popular Final Fantasy character of them all is.
Coolest of all is the fact that Portable App comes with an online-enabled version of Final Fantasy VIII’s Triple Triad card game! You can battle other players wirelessly via bluetooth and the game is free-to-play. In addition, Cards that you unlock can later be transferred into Final Fantasy XV! Huzzah!
It’ll be released in Japan this Winter, and 2015 elsewhere. It will be free-to-play with the ability to purchaser content directly through the app.
This is a cool idea. Especially since Square Enix has grown so big and more people use apps to do just about everything these days than anything else; so many people have probably never visited the Square Enix online store on the web.
This is a great way for them to reach out to new fans and connect with their growing fanbase.
I’m also a huge fan of Final Fantasy VIII & Triple Triad, so this sounds like great fun!
