Crytek has announced Arena of Fate, an all-new FreeToPlay (F2P) Strategy game featuring 10-player online multiplayer battles with a number of mythical fantasy figures similar to a MOBA.

Arena of Fate is an intense 20-minute session arena strategy game, where the first team to 10 Points wins or the team with the most points at the end of the 20 minutes. Arena of Fate is not a MOBA but is similar in many ways, it intends to be more accessible and broader than what dictates a MOBA.

Watch as one of the developers takes us through 13 minutes of gameplay footage of Arena of Fate.

Form A Star-Studded Squad

A lone person can change history, but it takes a whole team of heroes to alter fate! Arena of Fate invites you to play your part in 5 Vs 5 match-ups unlike anything you’ve experienced before, as the likes of Little Red Riding Hood, Joan of Arc, Nikola Tesla and many more come together to redefine the meaning of “dream team”. With so many high-powered heroes to choose from the possibilities are almost endless, and the battles are always legendary.

THE ARENA – Fast-Paced Battles With Fresh Gameplay Twists

When the action gets underway in the arena, you’ll discover a fast-paced combat experience that is instantly accessible for new players but deep enough to captivate veteran campaigners too. With each battle lasting a maximum of 20 minutes, there’s always time for a quick game with friends, and an intense focus on making an impact before the seconds slip away. In this arena, time is of the essence, and fireworks are guaranteed!

CHARACTERS

FENRIR

Origin: Norse Mythology
Strengths: Mastery of Fire, Raw Power
Famous For: Slaying Odin – Father of All Gods
Dislikes: Being Tied Up
Bio: Said to be the father of all wolves, Fenrir is a fearsome sight in battle. His brute strength is magnified by the power of fire, and his ability to break out of restraining effects makes him an almost unstoppable beast on the battlefield. Every enemy who crosses his path can only wish his existence was nothing more than a myth. But the scars this beast leaves are very real indeed.

ROBIN HOOD

Origin: English Folklore
Strengths: Striking From the Shadows
Famous For: Robbing From the Rich & Giving to the Poor
Dislikes: Corruption, The Sheriff of Nottingham
Bio: With an array of arrow attacks, Robin Hood is a marksman guaranteed to leave enemies quivering. From firing multiple arrows at once to striking from a great distance, the hero of Sherwood Forest adds a new dimension to any assembly of heroes. When Robin’s around, it won’t be long before those who oppose him feel the sharp end of his skill set.

TESLA

Origin: Smiljan, Austrian Empire (Modern-day Croatia)
Strengths: Leaving Enemies In A State of Shock
Famous For: Bending Electricity To His Will
Dislikes: Thomas Edison, Sleeping
Bio: Having made a career out of harnessing the flow of electricity, it’s no surprise that Tesla brings some serious shock and awe to the battlefield. Not only can he deal damage to multiple enemies with his ranged attacks, he also possesses the power to teleport short distances. If you find yourself on the opposite team from this great showman, don’t be surprised if he takes the opportunity to turn you into an impromptu semiconductor.

JOAN OF ARC

Origin: France
Strengths: Healing Allies, Harnessing the Power of Light
Famous For: Waging Wars As A Teenager
Dislikes: Admitting Defeat, Burgundians
Bio: Known as The Maid of Orléans, this revolutionary figure is an invaluable ally thanks to her selfless support skills. In close combat, she uses her mastery of light to both deal damage to enemies and impart healing to teammates. As you will soon find out in the heat of battle, having this leading lady by your side is unquestionably preferable to going up against her.

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

Origin: French Fairytale
Strengths: Deadly At Close Range
Famous For: Misidentifying Grandma
Dislikes: Fenrir, Fake Grandmas
Bio: Don’t mistake Little Red Riding Hood for an innocent girl making her way back to grandma’s house. This fairytale fighter loves to get in the thick of the action and wields a sword that can cut even the biggest, baddest wolf down to size. Her brutal spinning slashes and charges are designed to hit multiple enemies at once, and her mastery of fire makes her too hot to handle for many a foe.

Arena of Fate sounds like a really interesting concept. I love that the developers have the focus down to just 20 minutes, allowing them to perfect what they expect to happen in that time frame. I also love the mythical characters, it’s a really cool idea. I’ve never played a MOBA, but this is certainly one that could serve as a bridge to getting people interested in the genre methinks.
