Hyrule Warriors Has No Online Co-Op. Sheik, Fi, Princess Ruto & Darunia Added

Hyrule Warriors, the highly anticipated new Zelda spinoff that crosses Dynasty Warriors with Nintendo’s epic Action Adventure franchise, has both exciting news and disappointing news to announce.

Check out this Hyrule Warriors “Features” trailer, that shows off several of the new playable characters!

THE GOOD:

First for the exciting stuff. Nintendo has confirmed that several new characters will be playable in Hyrule Warriors. Already confirmed were: Link, Princess Zelda (marking the first-time ever that Zelda fans will actually get to play as the Princess), as well as Impa.

At E3 2014 more new characters were confirmed as playable, including Agitha, Lana and Midna.

Now several more fan-favorites have been added to the playable roster: These include Fi, Princess Ruto (a Zora), the Goron King Darunia and fan-favorite Sheik! This brings the total amount to some 10 odd characters or so, and Nintendo and developer Tecmo Koei confirm there are many more playable characters in the game that have yet to be announced. They also confirmed that Ghirahim, the Imprisoned and a new version of Queen Gohma (Ocarina of Time’s opening boss) will be a boss fight!

Confirmed so far are:

1. Link
2. Princess Zelda
3. Midna
4. Impa
5. Agitha
6. Lana
7. Fi
8. Princess Ruto
9. Darunia
10. Sheik

THE BAD:

In bad news, Nintendo has confirmed that Hyrule Warriors will NOT include online play…

Instead, players are forced to play co-op locally only. Which means you will have to have two people in the same room in order to play with a buddy. In 2014 this is unacceptable. But still Nintendo persists on axing online play.

At least Nintendo has gone the extra mile and allowed cooperative play with one person using the TV (playing with Wii Remote & Nunchuck or Wii U Pro Controller), while the other uses the GamePad, allowing each person to have a screen to themselves. But this hardly makes up for the lack of online play. Shame on Nintendo.

Hyrule Warriors will be released exclusively for Wii U on September 26th in the US, September 19th in Europe, September 20th in Australia and August 14th in Japan.

The fact that it is 2014 and Nintendo still doesn’t add online play to their titles is extremely depressing and distressing. They are so behind the times that it is truly hard to fathom. In my opinion they should delay the game to add online play, or at the very least unsure that it is patchable so they can add online play later via a downloadable patch.

Hopefully all-new characters can also be purchased via DLC once the game comes out. But I’m not holding my breath for that one either. *sigh*

Are you excited for Hyrule Warriors? I personally can’t wait.
