No Man’s Sky PC Version Confirmed Following Timed PS4 Exclusivity

A No Man’s Sky PC version has officially been confirmed, announced developer Hello Games and creator Sean Murray in an interview with Edge. He confirmed that No Man’s Sky will be a PlayStation 4 timed-exclusive, after which point it will hit PC.

No Man’s Sky will launch in 2015 on PS4, exactly how long the PC world will have to wait before they can get their hands on this highly anticipated procedural-generated, infinite-world MMO shooter has yet to be revealed.

In the Edge interview Murray says that the game was specifically built with the PS4 in mind, and that the strengths of the PS4 console is what helped to mold how the developer addressed the Performance, Controls, and overall Design of No Man’s Sky.

“I actually got in a bit of trouble for saying that we wanted the game to feel really console-y,” Murray explains.

“We’ve always had PC in mind but in my head console-y means solid framerate and immediate controls. I think a PC game can be console-y and it’s intended as a compliment, but I get in trouble for saying it… Unlike most games, the actual hardware really affects what we can do in terms of the richness of the worlds and things like that. It isn’t just adding a veneer of resolution, or extra anti-aliasing options. It has a real effect on what we can actually do in the universe.”

Take a look at the extensive No Man’s Sky stage demo from E3 2014:

No Man’s Sky was my overall Game of the Show of E3 2014, and that includes both AAA & Indie titles. I couldn’t be more excited for No Man’s Sky and the game is definitely going to sell a lot of PlayStation 4’s. I can’t help but think however that Sony should’ve ponied up the extra dough to make the game a true Sony-exclusive. I bet they will after they see the game’s sales numbers.

Maybe No Man’s Sky 2 will be exclusive. We’ll have to wait and see.

How excited are you about No Man’s Sky? Does having the game on PC mean you won’t be picking it up for the PS4?
