Street Fighter: The World Warrior Show Announced. Season 2 of Assassin’s Fist Digital Series

Season 2 of the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist digital series TV show/movie, has been announced as “Street Fighter: The World Warrior”. Street Fighter: The World Warrior will take place directly following the storyline of Assassin’s Fist, and introduce us to all-new beloved characters and stories from the Street Fighter mythos, including Bison for sure, with Guile and Chun-Li definite possibilities.

“You wanted a Season 2?? Well brace yourselves as Street Fighter: World Warrior is officially beginning development!” – That’s how Capcom chose to announce the new series via their official Facebook page following the announcement of the new digital series at Comic Con 2014.

“We demonstrated with Assassin’s Fist that an authentic, live-action version of videogames, with a compelling and dramatic storyline, can be made. We’ll be taking the same approach with the new World Warrior series,” said producer Jacqueline Quella.

“The scale of World Warrior is a much larger, picking up where Assassin’s Fist left off as we follow Ryu and Ken on their ‘Musha Shugyo’ (Warrior’s pilgrimage),” added producer Joey Ansah. “The Shadaloo criminal cartel will be introduced, led by the extremely dangerous M.Bison, which will naturally lead into the World Warrior Tournament.”

Guile is likely to be played by Scott Adkins (who played Yuri Boika in Undisputed II), who has already been asked and shown interest in taking up the Guile mantra.

For those who’ve never heard of Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, the show is the brainchild of Joey Ansah (Director, Fight Choreographer, Writer, Actor, Martial Artist) and Christian Howard (Actor, Writer, Martial Artist) and Academy Award-nominated film producer Jacqueline Quella.

Together, the trio pitched Capcom a proof-of-concept that came to be called “Street Fighter: Legacy”, a short film that made waves upon it’s release to youtube. Capcom was so impressed that they accepted the trio’s offer to take what they did in Street Fighter: Legacy and turn it into a digital web series worthy of respect… Something that has completely eluded Capcom from the realm of Hollywood adaptation.

In 2012 at Comic-Con, Capcom confirmed that they had given the above trio the rights to start development on the project that would be known as Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

A short Kickstarter campaign led to new sources of funding, allowing them to cancel the Kickstarter (as they had enough money already) and the beginning of production on Assassin’s Fist in Bulgaria, Sofia and Simeonovo, with filming completed on August 24th, 2013.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist made it’s online debut via youtube, with distrubution by Michinima, and was a huge success (it helps that it’s free to view, and over 10 million viewers have so far). It was released online as a 12-part webseries with episodes running 11-12 minutes long.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist will debut digitally in longer form via Video On-Demand and on DVD & Bluray via a full 2-hour, uncut version with never-before-seen scenes and special features later this year in 2014, and will also be broadcast on TV (network undisclosed) in a six part, 21-minutes each run some time this year too.

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist (along with the similar story of the Mortal Kombat Legacy digital series) is proof that indie film makers are often passionate enough to turn what they love into fantastic cinema. And it’s proof that videogames, even ones as “shallow” as Fighting Games, are ripe for mining in terms of shows and movies.

Now where the HELL is my The Legend of Zelda movie/TV series?! Hey Nintendo, are you paying attention?! >_< Ahem. I have yet to sit down and watch Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist or Street Fighter: Legacy (or Mortal Kombat: Legacy.... *long sigh*) but I can't wait to do so. This is very exciting stuff. I'm super glad to see how successful it has turned out to be, and hopefully more indie filmmakers hop aboard and produce amazing videogame inspired content.
