BlueStreak Revealed for PC. New Free to Play Arena FPS from Gears of War Creator Cliff Bleszinski

BlueStreak is the codename for an all-new first-person shooter from Cliff Bleszinski, the outspoken creator of Gears of War. In development exclusively for PC, this new game will be an arena-based, free-to-play FPS similar to what Cliffy B. worked on in the past with games like Quake and Unreal Tournament.

The game is still in the early stages, and it’s unknown if this project is the same as “SilverStreak”, for which he posted concept art in the past. This new game is being published by Nexon, the South Korean free-to-play powerhouses best-known in the west for the online side-scrolling MMORPG MapleStory.

“Creating fun and memorable shooters is in my DNA, and making the move to free-to-play games is all about maximizing the potential audience for your title while embracing where the industry is headed,” says Bleszinski. “No one knows the free-to-play market better than Nexon, which is why they were the obvious partner to publish BlueStreak. It’s a game and concept I think will really resonate with players who have been clamoring for a new take on an old favorite. After all, I’ve had a year and a half to plan it.”

Boss Key, Cliffy’s new development studio, are handling development duties on the new title, which may get a name change to something more official in the future.

Oh, and Cliffy has stated that you won’t see a fake CG “target” trailer coming for Blue Streak:

“And no, there won’t be a fake CG trailer showing ‘Gameplay’ because that’s not how Boss Key does it,” he Tweeted.

It’s great to see Cliffy B. back in business and creating something. Gears of War was a massive franchise, but will people get as excited over a free-to-play game? Games like Warframe are extremely popular, with Sony just revealing that over 2 million downloads of Warframe for PS4 have happened, making it the 2nd most downloaded App behind Netflix. But free-to-play games, so far, do not have the cache of a… say Gears of War or Halo. And I don’t know that having Cliffy B. behind it will change that?
