  • Based on the critically-acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning epic drama Game of Thrones; The multi-year, multi-title partnership between Telltale and HBO Global Licensing is targeted to premiere digitally in 2014 with an episodic game series for home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Specific platform details are yet to be announced, but the console launch will at the very least include: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Vita, much like Telltale’s other current episodic series. (But hopefully Xbox One, PlayStation 4 & Wii U as well.)

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series Release Date

Here’s the Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series teaser:

Important Fact: The game is not a prequel and will take place at the same time as the TV series. Details are slim, but in the single-player graphic adventure you’ll be able to explore other parts of Westeros, while the war for the Iron Throne rages on elsewhere. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be waging war yourself, it’s a huge world after all, and there will be large battles!

To quote Dan Connors, co-founder and CEO of Telltale Games: “Since the very beginning, Telltale’s goal has been to work alongside the most talented and respected forces in entertainment, bringing their worlds to the interactive space as no other game studio can. Working with HBO to develop a new game series based on Game of Thrones is a natural fit for our studio. This partnership will create an experience that will captivate the huge, global Game of Thrones audience. It will put them in control of the epic stories of warfare, intrigue, violence and revenge that we know and love.”

He added: “We’re just really getting into it right now and thinking about the right characters, and who has the most at stake, and who has the most to do, and who has the biggest impact on the world. ‘Cause, you know, we’re so much about consequence, and Game of Thrones is so much about big consequence.”

To quote Josh Goodstadt, Director of HBO Global Licensing: “We’re delighted to be working with Telltale Games, a proven leader in the creation of engaging interactive content. Our fans are always looking for new, exciting ways to engage with the Game of Thrones brand and this game series will put them right in the middle of the action by letting them decide where the story will lead. This brings a whole new dimension to the world of Westeros.”

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones is an epic story where political and sexual intrigue abound as seven noble families fight for control of the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms.
So this game is definitely going to be rated M for Mature audiences only.

It would be a huge mistake to stick with their signature art style, if they do my chances of getting it plummet. It just would not fit, it’s too cartoony, too juvenile, for the wolf among us it’s perfect, and the walked dead started as a comic book so it works for that too but GoT is serious, it needs a serious art direction, nothing should look cute. Also I think having it parallel the War of the Five Kings is a mistake, that’s what the previous game did and it was a failure. I want to control armies, I want my decisions to impact the map itself, playing a high lord or a king would do that, but all of the high lords and kings are covered in the books/show, they could have a story about some knight or lower lord but their stories would inevitably be smaller and therefor less compelling. You can tell a story about a knight whenever, how often do games let you command entire armies? I don’t know, I just feel like they’re going to screw it up, telltall doesn’t seem like the right fit to me.

I think what you’re looking for is a combination of “Mount & Blade: Warband – A Clash Of Kings Mod” and “Crusader Kings 2: A Game of Thrones Mod”.

My perfect GoT game would combine the two into something like this:

-play as any character from the books who has any kind of army/land (CK2) or create your own lowborn character, build armies and serve a lord/king long enough for him/her to give you land and titles (Warband)
      -huge armies (CK2)
-to be able to play in any scenario from “The Bleeding Years” to “A Feast For Crows” (CK2),
-play as your character in third/first person and lead your armies in battle (Warband) or play as an avatar and let other characters fight your battles (CK2)
-deep political mechanics, character traits, events that activate based on your decisions and traits (CK2)

      -better graphics than Warband.
