The State of Decay achievements guide lists every achievement for this Xbox 360 & PC survival-horror game and tells you how to get and unlock them.

There are 50 Achievements (0 Secret) with a total of 400 Gamerscore points to earn in the Xbox 360 and PC versions.

State of Decay Achievements Guide

1. Cannibal Family Picnic (5G) — Got to the Mt. Tanner Ranger Station.

2. Holy Rolling (10G) — Escaped Mt. Tanner and found the survivors at the church.

3. Survivor (20G) — Escaped Trumbull County.

4. It Was Just a Police Action (10G) — Found out what the Army was up to.

Missions: “Sgt. Erik Tan” and/or “Somethings Missing”.
You will meet the army by the bridge and bust it down so you can find out what they have been up to.
Note: Story related it seems so it shouldn’t be missable.

5. Home on the Grange (10G) — Played matchmaker for Quentin and Becca.

This looks missable, do it the following way to ensure the achievement. When you get the quest called “A Discreet Request” you will talk to Quentin and he wants you to dig up Becca’s past.
Then you will need to find and save the sheriff in a quest called “Ask The Sheriff” when you save him he will tell you Becca’s past as a hooker and you get the choice of whether to hide it or not from Quentin.
Now I assume if you tell Quentin he will be heart broken, so to be safe say NO to him and BAM achievement unlocked!

Important: Saying YES to Quentin will upset him and you’ll lose the achievement.

6. Arrested Developments (10G) — Saw things through at the courthouse.

Mission: Trouble at the Courthouse. This seems story-related given at some point later in the game.
Simply get to the Courthouse and save the survivors since by now Carl and the judge will be dead already.

Note: This video guide is to show how easy it is to clear out all of the undead and get the achievement.

7. Gun Thugs (10G) — Helped the Wilkersons resolve their differences.

8. Pest Control (20G) — Destroyed 5 infestations in one day.

Here’s how to do it alone: Make use of cars to draw the big zombies out and ram them. Then proceed in alone and pick up the stragglers, be sure to make use of the LB+Y technique the moment they hit the floor this is an INSTANT kill and will make your life so much easier.

9. Watch the Birdie! (10G) — Distracted zombies to complete an objective.

Quest Location: When you must find Lily’s brother.
There is a mission to go rescue a guy at a barn not too far from the town. Basically when you rescue him you will be given fire crackers to distract any zombies simply chuck them at a zombie and the achievement will pop.

10. I Can See My House From Here (10G) — Completed a survey activity.

11. Land Usage (20G) — Built one of every type of facility.

12. Home Improvement (10G) — Built a facility.

This fast way to earn the achievement means waiting until you have the materials but you can skip the build time entirely if you have enough fame/influence.
After building any facility press down on the Directional-PAD and ask for construction advice this will build your facility instantly and remove any waiting time.

13. I’ll Be There For You (10G) — Earned 500 Fame.

14. Mercy Shot (10G) — Killed a member of your community to prevent them from turning.

15. Come and Knock On Our Door (10G) — Convinced another enclave to join your community.

16. Manifest Destiny (15G) — Built 8 outposts.

17. Everywhere You Look (20G) — Got 15 people in your community.

18. Movin’ On Up! (15G) — Relocated your home base.

19. Rule #1 (10G) — Maxed out a community member’s Cardio skill.

20. Trust Me, I’m an Expert (15G) — Earned a skill specialization for one of your community members.

21. Horde Hoard (20G) — Destroyed 10 hordes in one day.

22. Ya Always Were An A-Hole Gorman (10G) — Sacrificed your life in a blaze of glory.

Step 1: Grab a homemade bomb.
Step 2: Equip the bomb to quick-use, so it should show next to your map (at the bottom left of your screen).
Step 3: Let yourself die.
Step 4: Press the A button repeatedly to get up again, and then your character will say “Only one way out” and detonate the grenade or bomb, to take your attackers with you to die. Nice Aliens reference!

23. Torn Apart (10G) — Got killed by zombies.

Lose somebody who is pretty much useless to the group. The bad side to this video guide is that I did not intend to die here, he simply outclassed this character since his stats were basically none existent.

Important: You can basically allow any zombie to rip you to bits and the achievement shall unlock. But be warned the character will be dead forever!

24. Get Yo’ Freak On (10G) — Killed one of each freak zombie type.

This isn’t really a guide, but it is something puzzling as you can see in the video no mutated or freak zombie was killed at the time. But it may be proof that sending people to scavenge and THEM getting kills on zombies while your around still counts towards the achievement.

Note: As you can see the player killed a normal zombie and then a scavenger nearby killed a zombie that appeared to leave smoke as it died. So the that can be taken from this video is to send out a lot of runners to gather supplies and if you can meet up with them and see if they get any rare kills.

25. The Bruce (15G) — Killed 3 zombies with an exploding propane tank.

26. Double Dead (15G) — Performed a hand to hand double kill special attack.

27. Gotta Enjoy the Little Things (10G) — Used a car door to kill a zombie.

28. Get Outta My Dreams (10G) — Killed one of each freak zombie type with your car.

29. Vehicular Zombicide (20G) — Ran over 250 zombies.

You can’t do this in a very quick way sadly. But a good method is to use a pickup truck (any big vehicle will do) and ram hordes of zombies, by driving by them and having them chase you. You should easily kill 20+ zombies every time you do this making it a fast way to kill 250 of them.

30. Badass (30G) — Completed 50 missions or activities with the same character.
