Sonic: Lost World Announced for Wii U & 3DS

Sega of America and Sega Europe have announced details of an exclusive partnership with Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The first of three worldwide Nintendo-exclusive Sonic games is called Sonic: Lost World! Sonic: Lost World will be released only on Wii U & 3DS.

The new agreement will make Nintendo consoles the number one destination for Sonic gaming over the next three titles with more details of the individual games being revealed in the coming weeks.

Here’s what John Cheng, President & COO of Sega of America, had to say about it:

“Sonic the Hedgehog has proven incredibly successful on Nintendo platforms and we are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with Nintendo. As we initiate this new exclusive partnership with the next three titles we believe that Wii U and Nintendo 3DS are ideal platforms to showcase the evolution of the Sonic brand.”

Here’s what COO Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America President, added about the deal:

“The onetime rivalry between Mario and Sonic has grown into a friendship that has never been closer. These announcements in conjunction with SEGA demonstrate the commitment we have to bringing great games to the Wii U platform, and set the stage for our upcoming announcements at E3 2013 [in the week of June 10th].”

Sonic’s background:

Sonic the Hedgehog first appeared as a videogame character in June 1991 and instantly became an icon for a generation of gamers. Defined by his super-fast speed and cool attitude, in the years since he first raced on to videogame consoles Sonic has become a true global phenomenon with over 75 million videogames and smartphone apps sold worldwide. Sega’s iconic blue blur has also gone on to enjoy incredible success in many licensed areas, such as toys, apparel, comics and animation.
