How to find missing Musical Instruments?: In-game the Musical Instruments will appear as various instruments you can touch to briefly play music on with the on-screen action button when you stand next to it. For example: like the guitar that’s in Artyom’s room at the start of the game (shown in the picture at the top of this page).

Tip: When you get to areas in “The Dead City” Chapter where you hear spooky sounds from the past when humans were still living in the now-abandoned buildings. Follow the sounds to find the final Musical Instrument when you hear a piano playing and if you follow the sound up the stairs you’ll find the ghost of a man playing said piano, which leads to a flashback. After that you can play the piano.

Does the game save each Musical Instruments you collect?: No, while the game will track the Musical Instruments you find, you’ll still have to hit the next checkpoint after finding it to save your collectibles found progress. After the checkpoint has saved you can exit out a chapter and go to the next chapter with a music instrument in it from the Main Menu’s chapter select screen.
Once you find and pick up all 17 the “Musician” achievement / trophy will pop up confirming you’ve found them all.
