How to find missing VHS Tapes?: In-game the VHS Tapes will appear simply as the video cassette (½? magnetic tapes) used as the world’s main recording system between the 70’s to the 90’s until DVD’s came around to improve the resolution from 240p to 480p. It can be confirmed as being VHS Tapes simply by walking up to it, as the on-screen text will then tell you can hold the action button/key to “Rent VHS Tapes”. The in-game confirmation message for picking it up will read “Item Collected”.

Does the game save each VHS Tapes you collect?: Yes, the game will automatically save the VHS Tapes you just collected if you picked up the VHS Tape, so you don’t have to play to the end of the mission. After picking up each collectible you can safely quit the mission without losing collectibles progress.

Note: Collecting the VHS Tapes will also give you some nice bonuses: pick up three to get a box of ammo, pick up all twelve to unlock Max Mags.
