Borderlands 2 DLC Announced

Borderlands 2 developer Gearbox Software has announced what Borderlands 2 DLC will be available post-launch.

After the release of the game, four brand new add-on campaigns for Borderlands 2 are coming your way, featuring new areas to explore, new adventures to undertake, new enemies to overcome and more. Expect over 10 hours worth of fun in the first campaign DLC alone. Priced individually at 800 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360 and $9.99 on PC and PlayStation 3, these four campaign add-ons are scheduled to hit by June 2013.

Each of the four DLC campaigns will feature several hours of gameplay and introduce new adventures, allies, enemies and environments.

You can also buy all the above-mentioned DLC packs in one “Season Pass” bundle that includes all four campaign add-on packs for 2400 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and $29.99 on PC and PlayStation Network — a savings of 25% over buying each campaign add-on individually. The Borderlands 2 “Season Pass” will be available through Steam, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live and will also be available at GameStop.

The developer also points out that the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club and other pre-order items* are not included in the Borderlands 2 “Season Pass”.

Which brings us to the other Borderlands 2 DLC: The new Mechromancer character class that will be released for free (if you pre-ordered the game) on October 9, 2012. It’s free if you pre-ordered the game with participating retailers and now have a Borderlands 2 Premiere Club membership. Otherwise, the Mechromancer class will be released simultaneously for $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points for customers who are not Premiere Club members.

Gearbox Software has said they want to release lengthier campaigns and more character DLC like Gaige the Mechromancer, but it depends on how well those DLC’s do for themselves.
To quote Gearbox CEO Mr. Pitchford: “We’re extremely far along with the first campaign DLC. The second DLC is also in amazing shape. The third DLC is a little farther out and the fourth DLC is just in the pre-concept stages. We will have other, non-season pass related DLC. The additional character (Mechromancer) is one kind of example.”

Here’s a Mechromancer Preview at 55:30 minutes into this video:

More details to come in the future as development on the DLC progresses.

October Update:
Pirate DLC hints: “Legends speak of [Pirate] Captain Blade’s Lost Treasure of the Sands. Of a prize so great, that men would turn the sands red in pursuit of it.”
Oasis DLC hints: “Of a pirate queen, courageous and deadly, who would stop at nothing to find it. Of a monstrous Leviathan. Of the Vault Hunters who journeyed to the desert town of Oasis, not knowing the horrors that would befall them.”
Random DLC contents: “New head customization, new Seraph rarity level, new items & new bosses.”

Will you be getting the Borderlands 2 DLC “Season Pass”?
