Sonic Adventure 3 Rumor

Is Sonic Adventure 3 coming? Domain registrations for another sequel in the Sonic Adventure series have been spotted, leading to deliciously fun but unsubstantiated rumors…

Gamesradar reports that: “The threequel to the original Dreamcast twosome has so far not been confirmed by Sega, but a whole bunch of Sonic Adventure 3-related URLS have been registered. Sonicadventure3.com, sonicadventure3.net, sonicadventure3.org, sonicadventure3.info, sonicadventure3.fr and sonicadventure3.eu now all exist, though it’s not currently clear whether they’re actually owned by Sega or just part of some elaborate but ultimately misguided cybersquatting bid. Let’s face it, it’s a bit of a specific domain to waste cash on if Sega isn’t planning on continuing the series any time soon.

The Dreamcast original games Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2 were recently given DX/HD ports on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and even Steam for PC in the case of the first game two years ago; and now the second game will be available on console download services in October 2012.

It’s just a rumor, but it sounds good to me! Perhaps Sega is re-releasing the Sonic Adventure series now to get old & new fans ready for Sonic Adventure 3 next year.

If this news has awoken your nostalgia, check out the Sonic the Hedgehog Retrospective! And here’s the E3 2001 Trailer for Sonic Adventure 2: Battle that came with NGC Magazine back in the day (and convinced me to get the game at GameCube’s launch).

January 2013 Update: Rumor has it that Sega will announce a brand new Sonic game (hopefully Sonic Adventure 3!!) on its yearly “Hedgehog Day”, which falls on February 2, 2013. So either expect a tease this weekend or a full announcement sometime in February that we’re going to get a new Sonic game for Fall 2013.
