Kid Icarus: Uprising has become a big hit for the Nintendo 3DS, selling over 140,000 in its first month (March) on sale in America alone, according to the NPD, and a guesstimated 700,000+ worldwide. So naturally after a 19-year-wait for this game fans are clamoring for a sequel, but will we get Kid Icarus: Uprising 2? The game’s creator answers…

Masahiro Sakurai is the creator of series like Kirby, Super Smash Bros, and now Kid Icarus: Uprising. In a recent interview with IGN he answered whether we’d see a sequel or not.

To quote Mr. Sakurai:

“If by ‘lasting universe’ you mean to ask if there’s a sequel, the answer is no. The reason is because we pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game. For now, my thought is that perhaps we’ll see someone else besides me make another Kid Icarus in another 25 years.”

So without Sakurai at the helm it does not seem likely we’ll get another Kid Icarus game anytime soon. Sorry Pit fans, you’ll just have to keep playing the game’s online multiplayer or Smash Bros Bros. Brawl.

Here’s the Kid Icarus: Uprising launch trailer for a ‘last look’ at Pit and Lady Palutena.

Would you like to play another Kid Icarus game in the near future?
