Forza Horizon Announced For Xbox 360

Microsoft has announced Forza Horizon will be available in Fall 2012 exclusively for Xbox 360. The racing game is being developed by Playground Games in collaboration with Turn 10 Studios.

The spin-off game is expected to be open-world, like Test Drive Unlimited, with the creators saying it’s a “fast-paced, pick-up-and-play racing game”. So the new take seems to be an arcade action racer instead of a simulator game the series is known for.

Here’s the Forza Horizon Tone trailer:

Here are some quotes from the developers:

Forza 4 director Dan Greenawalt said: “This is the creative and management team that brought us Colin McRae, DiRT, GRID as well as Toca. Those guys stepped away from Codemasters studio and started their own studio about two years ago. At that same time we were looking for a partner to push our vision – gamers as car lovers and car lovers as gamers. We wanted them to embrace this vision but also come up with their own way of executing their own thoughts, so we could expand the house – not just duplicate it.”

Turn 10 head Dan Greenawalt said: I wouldn’t trust this partner as much as I do if I didn’t expect them to surprise me and surprise our players. I have respect for their ability to come up with great ideas. So I think yes, they are challenged by the customers the same way we are to surprise them with innovation. That’s how they see themselves, that’s how we see them, it’s how they see us. It’s really a shared goal.”

He added: “Our goal is to turn gamers into car lovers, and car lovers into gamers. This is part of our DNA. That’s why we’ve been working on this series for more than 10 years. Our goal is to take people who play Skyrim and Call of Duty and make them in racing game players. That is why I come to work every day.”

How do you feel about Forza Horizon being a new take on the series?
