The Xbox 720 & PS4 release date is rumored to be Holiday 2013. Sony is apparently hoping to release the PlayStation 4 before the Xbox 720 by Christmas 2013. No European date has been leaked.

This rumor comes from a VG247 source, who has said:

  • Watch The Latest Gaming News:

  • “Sony is aiming to get the machine to market ahead of Microsoft’s next generation Xbox. [The] PS4 specs were in place at least two years ago.

Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time. You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.

Top line publishers already know about it. Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it. While most developers will be fully briefed by the end of this year, some have been invited to events in May and June [of 2012] in the US.”

For old times sake, here are the Xbox 360 & PS3 unveilings…

Here’s the PlayStation 3 reveal, also from E3 2005. Skip to 1 hour & 47 minutes to see.

Microsoft and Sony have already confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox 720 will not be shown at E3 2012 in June. So at the earliest we’ll be seeing their next-gen consoles in 2013 or 2014.

Do you think Christmas 2013 is too early or too late to release the Xbox 720 & PS4?

    • Too early. I just don’t think now is the time for the next gen consoles, not yet. And wouldn’t they at least let the public know they are coming before they show off how they work, similar to how Nintendo was with Wii U? I mean, they announced that and showed it off last E3 and its supposedly coming out this fall. I just think next Christmas is too soon, it isn’t giving the public time to get the word out about what the console can do and have time to mull over whether or not it is worth it…

Course, I’m a little biased, as I’ve had my 360 for just over a year and I have no intention of getting anything new right now…lol

    • too early, way too early

    • Maybe they are seeing Apple’s success and thinking they should release their hardware right after to a few months after the E3 2013 reveal? Sony and Nintendo are already doing the same with their portable revisions and new color schemes.

I agree, though, it makes sense to let people know a year in advance so they can save up money to buy one come launch. Nintendo said the Wii U price is likely around $250 and I would get for next-gen consoles that’s going to be the lowest barrier of entry, so it’s quite an investment.

    • Yeah I kinda feel like we don’t need 3 new next-gen consoles yet, I’m still excited about all the games coming out this year. As long as the good games keep coming it’s no problem to wait.

    • Either way, I’ll most likely wait a while before investing in the new consoles, Wii U or NextBox, just so they can work out any kinks in the hardware and so a respectable library can come out for it.

      We don’t need a PS4 and Xbox 720. Why can’t Sega make a Dreamcast 2.
