The Xbox 720 & PS4 release date is rumored to be Holiday 2013. Sony is apparently hoping to release the PlayStation 4 before the Xbox 720 by Christmas 2013. No European date has been leaked.
This rumor comes from a VG247 source, who has said:
“Sony is aiming to get the machine to market ahead of Microsoft’s next generation Xbox. [The] PS4 specs were in place at least two years ago.
Sony are completely in the belief that they have the jump on Microsoft this time. You should be watching the timing of next year’s E3 keynotes, and who’s going to go first.
Top line publishers already know about it. Developers working with publishers – like Ubisoft, for example – already know what’s going on. They’re already working on it. While most developers will be fully briefed by the end of this year, some have been invited to events in May and June [of 2012] in the US.”

Microsoft and Sony have already confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox 720 will not be shown at E3 2012 in June. So at the earliest we’ll be seeing their next-gen consoles in 2013 or 2014.
