Mass Effect 3 Walkthrough

Chapter 2: The Citadel

The Council must be informed of the Reaper threat and the Prothean device that may be able to stop the Reapers. Go to Councilor Udina’s office on the Citadel and convince the Council to send help for the fight against the Reapers.

We start out the video guide in Normandy Dock: Bay D24.

Here you are introduced to Diana Allers, as you may know she’s a new character voiced and modeled by IGN host Jessica Chobot, who plays an Alliance News Network war correspondent in the game.

Let’s present our findings to the new Councilors. A head’s up, there’s no way to get their support outright, but not all words are lost to all Councilors.

We get a new priority mission, a favor for a favor as it were. The mission: Primarch Fedorian of the Turian Hierarchy has called a war summit that presents an opportunity for the Alliance to request help building the Crucible device that might kill the Reapers. Unfortunately, Fedorian was caught in the Reaper attack on Palaven. Resque the Turian primarch from Palaven’s moon.

Oh god it’s that reporter Khalisah al-Jilani again, if you’re playing Paragon you know how to deal with her haha!

Interlude: Normandy SR-2 Tour

Back on the Normandy SR-2, to take a tour of the ship, and speak to the crew. They include: Admiral Hackett, Liara T’Soni, and Specialist Traynor.

When the original SSV Normandy was destroyed, Cerberus rebuilt the ship from stolen Alliance plans. Dubbed the SR-2, the Alliance took the new Normandy apart and refitted some of its systems with new technology of its own. As a result, the SR-2 Normandy is the highest-performing frigate in the entire Alliance navy, and possible the fastest ship in its class. The Normandy is commanded by Shepard, an Alliance officer and humanity’s first Spectre.

To bolster the Normandy’s firepower, Commander Shepard installed a Thanix Magnetic-Hydrodynamic Cannon on the ship’s undercarriage. Based on Reaper technology, the powerful weapon fires molten metal accelerated to a fraction of the speed of light.

Before taking on the Collectors, Commander Shepard reinforced the Normandy’s superstructure with Silaris armor. This protective layer of carbon nanotube sheeting can withstand temperatures that would instantly vaporize more conventional armor.

The Normandy has been upgraded with Cyclonic Barrier Technology, allowing the ship’s mass effect field projectors to fire rapidly oscillating barriers that deflect rather than directly absorb kinetic shocks.

After speaking to Admiral Hackett again, you’ll be introduced to the War Assets menu. The System Alliance represents humanity’s economic, political, and military reach throughout the galaxy. Its naval forces are led by Admiral Steven Hackett. This early in the game your total military strength (around 605) and Galactic Readiness (sitting at around 50%) won’t be high. Allied forces are overwhelmed by Reapers on multiple fronts and taking heavy casualties. Troops assisting in a final push will have a strength of around 302 (the Effective Military Strength). As such, at present chances of succes are very poor. So after talking to the Normandy crew, let’s get to work building more alliances!

Meanwhile, like Hackett said, the Alliance Engineering Corps (AEC) cuts roads through mountains and builds bases on asteroids. While the bulk of the AEC has active wartime duties, their brightest are helping build a device of Prothean origin recovered on Mars. Due to the staggering amount of raw materials required, the AEC has been given unprecedented emergency funding for any Alliance resources that will not interfere with the deployment of troops.

Here we speak to more of the crew: Specialist Traynor, Joker, Glyph, and Liara T’Soni.

Hint: Be sure pay a visit to the Private Terminal’s Tactical Mastery lessons to train with the Power Wheel squad functions. It’ll give you increased tactical control during combat on missions. For example, the Advanced Power Use lesson will help you review advanced power techniques like power combinations during attacks. The Basic Power Use lesson reviews how to use powers effectively.

Remember all that planet scanning you did for mineral resources? Well, now we know its benefits. When Commander Shepard uncovered significant elemental deposits while scanning planets with the Normandy SR-2. When the Alliance dry-docked the Normandy, they seized all recovered elements. This material surplus has gone toward building the Prothean device discovered on Mars.

Let’s hope Liara’s Shadow Broker Terminal will point out some Prothean ship upgrades further into the story.
