Top 10 Bestselling Games Worldwide in Week 1, 2012

What were the top 10 bestselling games in America, Japan, and Europe this first week of the new year? Thanks to Amazon online sales data here are the games that are the hottest worldwide.

The bestsellers clearly show lots of folks have a New Year’s Resolution to stay healthy!

What follows is a listing of the Top 10 bestsellers per region, for all systems combined.

North America’s Top 10 Games:

    1. Just Dance 3 (Wii)
    2. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 (Xbox 360 Kinect)
    3. Kinect Sports Season Two (Xbox 360 Kinect)
    4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Xbox 360)
    5. Zumba Fitness 2 (Wii)
    6. Just Dance 3 (Xbox 360 Kinect)
    7. Zumba Fitness – Kinect (Xbox 360 Kinect)

The “Just Sweat” mode in Just Dance 3 is no doubt proving popular this new year. Did you know Just Dance 3 has 8.4 million players? Ubisoft has made quite a splash with the series that’s now gone multiplatform, although the favorite version is still on Wii.

In Japan, neither Final Fantasy XIII-2’s 704,236 nor PlayStation Vita’s 439,986 sales, so far, made a dent in the Nintendo-ruled charts. Not surprising, considering Enterbrain magazine reports the Nintendo 3DS has set a new monthly sales record for any gaming platform in Japan with 1,492,931 systems sold in December alone! Nintendo brings the Mario racing series to the 3DS handheld with Mario Kart 7. Nintendo EAD who developed the game, previously made Mario Kart DS & Mario Kart Wii. And it shows in this cross between all previous six Mario Kart games.

The Zumba Fitness games have been popular for over year now, in 2012 once again everyone wants to stay fit. Strong sales of the dance/fitness game brought fans a sequel, Zumba Fitness 2, on the Wii in November 2011. It’ll be coming to Xbox 360 Kinect as Zumba Fitness Rush in February 12, 2012.

Normally I don’t often get a chance to discuss these casual health games, but I do love highlighting them. I’ve been using them to balance exercise routines with some much-needed fun, since the early-2000’s when the PlayStation 2’s EyeToy and Dance Dance Revolution games came out.
