Spec Ops: The Line Preview

This Spec Ops: The Line preview will give a quick look at what can be expected from Yager Development’s upcoming third-person, tactical shooter title.

Spec Ops: The Line is a completely standalone title and does not tie in with any of the previous installments!

Players will take on the role of Captain Martin Walker (voiced by Nolan North), a man backed by a Delta Force bravo team, and must rescue U.S. Army Colonel John Konrad who has been left behind in the sand-swamped, once opulent city of Dubai.

Based on Joseph Konrad’s novella “Heart of Darkness” and the film “Apocalypse Now”, Spec Ops: The Line is an upcoming third-person shooter video game focussing on the grey area of battle. It is being developed by Yager Development and will be the ninth installment in the series.

Though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, the game is due to be released in 2012 on both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Key Features of Spec Ops: The Line

Here is a list of key features that will be available in Yager Development’s Spec Ops: The Line based on news and announcements made so far.

  • Progression In-Game: As the player progresses, weapons and equipment will improve. Squad commands will also be available in-game, which will allow the player to control their teammates in firefights.
  • Environment: The game will center around natural sandstorms supported by a randomized engine that shuffles the strength, duration and time of the storms arrival. The dynamic terrain will often change throughout the game too, similar to Fracture and the Red Faction series.
  • Multi-Player: A multi-player mode will also feature in the game. Very little information has been revealed about this mode although Yager has described the multiplayer as a campaign that expands the single-player experience.
