Aliens: Colonial Marines Preview

This Aliens: Colonial Marines preview will give a quick look at what can be expected from Gearbox Software’s upcoming first-person shooter title.

Set somewhere between Aliens and Alien 3, The story of Colonial Marines will follow a search and rescue team, sent to look for the missing characters that were introduced, and decimated, in the 1986 film, Aliens.

Players will return to and explore every inch of the U.S.S Sulaco; you must survive and wipe out the Xeno infestation in what Gearbox are promising to be the Aliens follow-up fans have always wanted!

Based heavily on the sci-fi, action film, the upcoming squad based, first person shooter title will be developed by Gearbox Software for the PC (Microsoft Windows), Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 platforms.

The game is due to hit retailers March 2012 – no specific release date has been announced thus far.

Key Features of Aliens: Colonial Marines

Here is a list of key features that will be available in Gearbox Studio’s Aliens: Colonial Marines based on news and announcements made so far.

Enemies

  • Aliens: The primary enemies of the game, they specialize in sneaking up and outflanking a team. Many varying types of Alien will be seen however, each with their own method of attack! “Warrior” aliens for example are based solely on the films, whereas “Runners” work as scouts and will spy on the team’s activities. “Drones” protect the Queen.
  • Facehuggers: Just like the movie, these creatures will attempt to attach itself to a player character’s face. It will then, as any die-hard Alien fan should know, implant an embryo inside of them before ripping out of the chest.
  • The Alien Queen: The mother of all the Aliens, she is nested deep within the hive and will appear as a “boss” enemy in the game.

Weapons
Each player character can carry primary and additional weapons. These will include flamethrowers, pulse rifles, smartguns, pistols, RPG’s, and a vast array of grenades – what can you expect from the most badass military outfit in the galaxy?

Squad-Based Play
In Aliens: Colonial Marines, the player will take control of four marines each with their own abilities, skill sets, weapons and personalities. Only one marine can be controlled at a time. Issues ordered to the others must be done via context-sensitive commands though players can switch characters in-game.
