Who Won The Video Game Awards 2011?

The Spike 2011 Video Game Awards have come and gone. Who won Game of the Year?

While many loathe the actual awards show, I had a good time watching it and thought it was better than past years. Even if innuendo and outdated gamer stereotypes dominate. But more important than the awards show itself and all its sillyness, are the actual awards which are chosen by many industry veterans from lots of different publications.

Table of Contents

Highlights include Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City, which both won numerous awards. Skyrim took away Game of the Year and Best RPG (as well as Bethesda winning Best Studio) while Batman: Arkham City won Best Action Adventure Game, Best Xbox 360 Game, Best Adapted Game and Best Character for The Joker. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword won several awards including Best Wii Game, Best Motion Game and The Legend of Zelda series was inducted into the first “Hall of Fame” Award, with Shigeru Miyamoto coming on stage to accept the award. Portal 2 won several awards including Best Multiplayer Game, Best PC Game, Best Performance By A Human Male for Stephen Merchant as Wheatley, Best Performance By A Human Female for Ellen McLain as GLaDOS and Best DLC for Peer Review. Finally Uncharted 3 won Best Graphics and Best PS3 Game.

Here is a nice lil summary of the VGA 2011 Winners.

Last but definitely not least, Bastion took home several awards including Best Downloadable Game, Best Original Score and Best Song In A Game (for “Build that Wall (Zia’s Theme)” by Darren Korb) , while MineCraft won an official award as Best Independent Game. Most Anticipated Game was won by Mass Effect 3, while Ray Rice won the vote to be the official digital cover athlete for the upcoming NFL Blitz downloadable game.

In short, the Awards themselves are legit. Here is the complete list.
