This Far Cry 3 preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from Ubisoft Montreal’s upcoming first-person shooter video game.
Far Cry 3 is Ubisoft Montreal’s upcoming sequel to the 2008 video game Far Cry 2. It is currently in development and is due to be released in February 2012 on the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
Far Cry 3 takes place on a tropical island found somewhere at the intersection of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. However, Patrick Redding, a Ubisoft story designer, mentioned that an Antarctic setting is a possibility for future games. The main goal of the game is to escape from the islands (as there will be more than one, mentioned by Dan Hay) and its crazed inhabitants.

Key Features of Far Cry 3
Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Ubisoft Montreal’s Far Cry 3 based on news and announcements made so far.
Dunia Engine
Far Cry 3 will be running on the Dunia Engine, the tech used for the previous game, Far Cry 2, but will be using advanced water tech to give an in-depth experience to the game.
Combat Mechanics
The player has the ability to shoot enemies behind objects in crouch mode without moving his head up but with free hands. The newest demo has also revealed an overhauled stealth mechanic as well as a possible leveling system based on experience points. “takedown” abilities are also possible by performing melee attacks from above or in crouch mode.
Expanded Story-Mode
Far Cry 3’s narrative director, Jason Vandenberghe, has said that the story mode map will be around ten times larger than its previous installments, indicating that it is still an open world sandbox game in which player chooses when and how they want to complete missions.
