Skyrim Easter Eggs

Our Skyrim Easter Eggs guide will show you where to find a possible Minecraft Notch reference and M’aiq the Liar in Skyrim!

Minecraft/Pickaxe Easter Egg

About halfway through the campaign you’ll want to do the “Throat of the World” mission. Climb up the insanely tall mountain where you find a lot of ore. Laying on the ground you’ll find a “Notched Pickaxe”. Is this a reference to “Notch”, the creator of Minecraft (a game in which the pickaxe is essential)? There’s debate as to whether it is or isn’t. Officially or not, it’s funner to pretend it is. And seems a little to deliberate to NOT be a reference. As Bethesda (or rather parent-company ZeniMax) was the company that sued Notch for the use of the world “Scrolls”, the title of Notch’s upcoming game, which Bethesda said infringed on their copyright due to the “Elder Scrolls” name. A case that they lost.

M’aiq the Liar Easter Egg

You can find M’aiq the Liar in Skyrim! Those who played previous Elder Scrolls games will recognize him as a character who was in both Morrowind and Oblivion. When you find him, he’ll speak only a few lines of dialog before refusing to speak with you farther. After which point he will travel to different spots on the map. Find him again to get new dialogue.

Here’s a video showing M’aiq the Liar in action!

Castlevania 2 Easter Egg

Here’s a Castlevania 2 Easter Egg in the Skyrim: Dawnguard DLC.
