What were the best-selling games in America, Japan, and Europe last week? Thanks to Amazon online sales data here are the games that are the hottest. Think of it as a games weather report.

What follows is a listing of the Top 10 bestsellers per region, for all systems combined.

North America’s Top 10 Games:

    1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Xbox 360)
    2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3)
    3. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Xbox 360) – good for a Friday release
    4. Just Dance 3 (Wii)
    5. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3)
    6. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3)
    7. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – not bad for a Sunday release
    8. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC)
    9. Batman: Arkham City (Xbox 360)
    10. Batman: Arkham City (PS3)

Activision pulled off the biggest media launch ever with 4.7 million copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold worldwide on its first day alone.

Japan’s Top 10 Games:

    1. Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
    2. Hatsune Miku-Project DIVA-extend – includes Special Collaboration CD (PSP)
    3. No More Heroes – Red Zone Edition (PS3 Move)
    4. Yuke’s Beyond My Dead Body – Limited Edition (PSP)
    5. Final Fantasy Type-0 (PSP)
    6. Kirby of the Stars Wii (Wii)
    7. Just Dance Wii (Wii)
    8. Uncharted 3: Atlantis Asleep In The Desert (PS3)
    9. PokePark 2: Beyond the World (Wii)
    10. Sengoku Basara 3 Banquet (PS3)

Nintendo brings the Mario platformer series to the 3DS handheld with Super Mario 3D Land. Nintendo EAD Tokyo who developed the game, previously made the Super Mario Galaxy games on Wii. And it shows in this cross between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64 with influences from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Europe’s Top 10 Games:

    3. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Wii)

To recap the top games per system:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 debuts at the top of the Xbox 360 & PS3 charts
  • Just Dance 3 stays #1 on the Wii chart.
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim right away captured the top of the PC chart.
  • Super Mario 3D Land debuts at #1 on the 3DS chart.
  • The Sims 3 Pets remains at the top of the Mac chart.
  • Monster High: Ghoul Spirit appears on the DS chart.
  • Need for Speed Most Wanted claims the top spot on the PSP chart.
  • And lastly, Kingdom Hearts appears on the PS2 chart, where it’s been for 5 years now.
