Assassin’s Creed Film Deal With Sony Grants Ubisoft Creative Control

Details of the Sony/Ubisoft Motion Pictures deal to distribute the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie have been revealed!

Following the news that videogame developer and publisher Ubisoft had formed their own film company, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, it seems they are eager to get working on film adaptations of some of their most successful game franchises such as Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon.

Assassin’s Creed however seems to be taking priority. Not surprising really, considering the ever-expanding franchise material on offer; from Graphic novels to books and animated movies it’s an impressive series and the narrative potential and cinematic nature of the games could work well on the silver screen.

According to Vulture, the deal Sony signed with Ubisoft is unlike any other in that it almost grants Ubisoft Motion Pictures full creative control as well as approval over the script, casting decisions, budget and release date. Considering the slew of past game-to-movie flops, the more control Ubisoft has might just be for the best.
