The number of Mario Kart 7 characters has increased again by two! Wiggler and Honey Queen (from Super Mario Galaxy) have been confirmed by Nintendo as the newest characters to join the upcoming AAA 3DS title.
The first revealed character, Wiggler, is a Super Mario Bros. staple! He made his debut way back with Super Mario World (if memory serves me right) and has appeared in most Mario games since. However he is a generic character, so he fits well with the likes of other generic Mario Kart characters like Koopa Troopa, Dry Bones, Shy Guy and Birdo.
“Honey Queen” meanwhile hails from the Super Mario Galaxy series, where she was known as “Queen Bee”. It seems like a desperate attempt to add another female character, which is odd when you consider other choices they could’ve made. Either way, Honey Queen is a minor character having only appeared in the two Super Mario Galaxy titles and only as a climbable … giant bee.
Additionally, here are some newly revealed tracks.
Toad Circuit – This is a generic starter track where players will first use their Glider ability.
Daisy Hills – Seen in the screenshots with the hot air balloons in the background. This track features a long gliding section and lots of ramps.
Cheep Cheep Lagoon – This is the first Water level players will tackle. SEen in the E3 footage and other demos.
Shy Guy Bazaar – This racetrack features an Arabian theme and includes multiple routes you can take.
Wuhu Loop – This is one giant lap with huge cars that must be avoided.
Mario Circuit – A standard track with lots of Coins scattered about. Which you can use to purchase new parts for your Kart.
Music Park – Music notes that shake the ground on a music-themed course with lots of Piranha Plants ready to chomp you down.
Rock Rock Mountain – An air-themed track with lots of shortcuts and gliding opportunities.
