The War of the Worlds: The Video Game is out tomorrow exclusively for Xbox Live Arcade. And it looks INCREDIBLE.
While a game based on the classic flick is not something that is followed by great images, wait until you see what the developer has done with the graphical style in an entirely 2D side-scrolling world. In addition to the fantastic visuals, the game is narrated by Patrick Stewart, which elevates the game above and beyond.
Based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells, The War of the Worlds showcases Stewart’s distinct voice as the narration for the game, which follows one man’s experience in 1950’s London during a decimating alien invasion.
“As a young boy, I remember watching the The War of the Worlds so many times I was quoting the lines,” said Stewart. “The alien invasion both terrified and fascinated me and the movie has stuck with me since then. Now, being part of this project will provide a new way for gamers around the world to experience a fresh new take on a classic.”
In The War of the Worlds, players enter a breattaking side-scrolling world inspired by the classic H.G. Wells novel, which is retold in a single-player adveture of epic proportions. The games narrative runs parallel to that of the novel and the 1953 movie adaptation, but also introduces new elements including new characters, locations, sub-plots and even a new story arc. The gameplay meanwhile pays homage to classic side-scrollers like Out of This World And Flashback, and follows the adventure of a normal guy who is struggling to escape the invasion of London and rescue his family from the Martians. However players will have to use their brain power to make it through, and contend with an army of alien tripods, spiders and drones through a pitch black world of devastation.
Here is the fantastic launch trailer!
As mentioned, The War of the Worlds: The Videogame release date is set for October 26th, 2011 exclusively on XBLA.
