Farmville Movie In Discussion With Toy Story Writers

A Farmville movie may become a reality thanks to some creators of Toy Story, according to a new interview.

No the above is NOT a typo. I repeat. NOT A TYPO!

Ahem. This news was revealed in an interview with Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen who have just finished up work on the upcoming Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure game. When questioned about what they are working on next, the duo revealed that they are “in negotiations” with Farmville, Cityville, Adventure World, Mafia Wars 2 developer Zynga. The talks involve the two penning a script for a possible upcoming movie based on the FarmVille brand.

To quote from the IGN interview,

“So, yes, we will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We’re in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can’t really say too much on that front yet, but ‘Old MacDonald’ didn’t have a factory, if you get our drift.”

This is the first time that a Farmville movie has been revealed, with previous movie-rumors focusing on Mafia Wars, which would seem to make a more likely culprit for a movie based on a videogame. But with everything from an Angry Birds movie to a Guitar Hero movie to The Sims to an Asteroids movie being mined by Hollywood as possible film material within the last couple of years (not forgetting boardgames like the upcoming “Battleship” movie based on the classic boardgame), is anyone really surprised?

As you’d expect, Zynga has yet to comment on this rumor and has not formally announced a FarmVille movie. So we’ll see where this goes.

Here is a video showing some tips in Farmville.
