With the release of Spider-Man: Edge of Time on the horizon, here is a list of characters we can expect to see in the newest Spidey-installment!
Edge of time is set in the year 2099! Alchemax scientist Walter Sloan seeks to gain power and fortune by traveling back in time to the present day in order to utilize his knowledge of future technology. Through a sort of ‘ripple effect’, this causes the future of 2099 to change to a dystopia where Alchemax rules the world. Spider-Man 2099 is aware of the plan and discovers that Sloan’s actions are not only responsible for the radically altered timeline but will also cause the death of Peter Parker/Spider-Man at the hands of Anti-Venom!
This is the second Spider-Man title to be developed by Beenox, following Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions of 2010, and the game is due to hit the shelves on October 4th (US) and October 14th (EU) 2011.
Eight characters have been confirmed, so let’s take a look at the characters of Spider-Man: Edge of Time!
The Amazing SpiderMan
Peter “Benjamin” Parker is a 16-year-old High School student, who lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May after his parents died when he was a child. On a high-school field trip to a genetics laboratory, Peter is bitten by a “Genetically Altered Super-Spider” while on a field trip to Dr. Curt Connors’ lab.
Mary Jane Watson
Mary Jane is depicted as an extremely beautiful, green-eyed redhead, and has been the primary romantic interest of Peter Parker for the last twenty years, although initially competing with others for his affection, most prominently with Gwen Stacy and the Black Cat.
Anti-Venom
Anti-Venom appears as a major character in Spider-Man: Edge of Time. He is brainwashed by a scientist from 2099 named Walker Sloane into killing Spider-Man.
The Shocker
(DS Version)
The Shocker will appear exclusively in the Nintendo DS version of Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
Herman Schultz was born in New York City. He was a high school dropout who had brilliant talents as both an inventor and an engineer. Instead of using such talents to gain legitimate employment, he became a successful burglar and (according to him in later stories) the world’s best safe-cracker.
The Rhino
(DS Version)
Rhino will appear exclusively in the Nintendo DS version of Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
The character possesses a thick polymer mat suit similar to a rhinoceros hide, covering his entire body except for his face. The suit is highly impervious to damage and temperature extremes, and is also equipped with a horn. Mutagenic chemical and radiation treatments, including gamma ray bombardment, provides the character with superhuman strength, heightened levels of speed and stamina, and a high degree of durability.
SpiderMan 2099
Miguel O’Hara is born in New York City of an Alternate Future, many years after the end of what his people’s history calls the “Heroic Age”, which is the modern-day era of Marvel heroes. Spider-Man 2099 will be a playable character in the upcoming Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
Black Cat 2099
(Game exclusive)
Felicia Hardy is the daughter of a world-renowned cat burglar. The 2099 version of Black Cat is actually a clone of the original Felicia Hardy with her memories programmed in, and upgraded with cybernetic weaponry by the Alchemax corporation. She is also cloned several times into enemies that Spider-Man (Peter Parker) fights. She claims that Alchemax has been force-feeding her anti-aging pills, possibly to mislead Spider-Man.
Walter Sloan
(Game exclusive)
Sloan is an Alchemax scientist who seeks to gain power and fortune by traveling back in time to the present day in order to use his knowledge of future technology to found Alchemax much earlier in time. He is the main antagonist of the game.
