Modern Warfare 3 Storyline Details

With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, here are some early story details, which we can expect to see in the newest installment!

The game will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, where the Russian Federation continues its invasion of the United States of America, and has also expanded its offensive to Europe, including England, France and Germany. Campaign stages are also planned for Somalia, Sierra Leone, Moscow and Dubai.

Gameplay videos from E3 2011 in Los Angeles showed Delta Force soldiers helping Navy Seal Teams force a Russian submarine to surface in the East River and boarding it to destroy the other boats in the harbor. Later on, Delta Force soldiers are on a mission to destroy a radar jamming installation on top of the New York Stock Exchange.

According to sources via a Kotaku article, the game will reboot the Call of Duty franchise, bringing an impressive number of settings, deep multiplayer gaming and a story that ties up nearly all loose ends from previous titles, including the final moments of key figures in the series’ history.

The article goes on to state that, “the game opens moments after the cliffhanger ending of Modern Warfare 2 with the U.S. struggling to stave off a surprise Russian attack. The single-player campaign will ping-pong players around the world as they take on the multiple throwaway roles as a Russian Federal Protective Services agent, SAS Operative, tank gunner, and AC-130 gunner as well as key characters from previous installments and new recurring characters. The game will feature about 15 missions, kicking off with the invasion of Manhattan by a Russian force and wrapping up with a final encounter in Dubai.”

The plot, as described, seems to be keeping with developer Infinity Ward’s habit of delivering complex, short sequences punctuated by lots of gunfire and scene changes.

Modern Warfare 3 will also see the return of Task Force 141 Captain John “Soap” MacTavish (voiced by Kevin McKidd), former SAS Captain John Price (voiced by Billy Murray) and Russian informant Nikolai who are on the run after killing the rogue U.S. Army Lieutenant General Shepherd. Russian Ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov (voiced by Roman Varshavsky) will also reprise as the game’s primary antagonist.

Several new playable characters have been added, including Derek “Frost” Westbrook (voiced by Corey Stoll) and “Sandman” (voiced by Christopher Meloni), a pair of Delta Force operatives in New York City; Marcus Burns (voiced by Christian Coulson), a Sergeant in the Special Air Service fighting in London; and Yuri, a Russian federal security agent. Wallcroft (voiced by Craig Fairbrass) from Call of Duty 4 will also return in the game!

Activision, the series’ publisher, still hasn’t officially unveiled any details about the game.
