This Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from Sega’s upcoming sports title!
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is an upcoming sports title for the Wii and Nintendo 3DS and the third installment of the Mario & Sonic series. New sports such as football and horse riding, along with other athletic events, will debut in the Wii version while 50 new and original sports are confirmed to appear in the 3DS version.
It has been confirmed that there will be 20 playable characters and the game will, of course, take place in London, home of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
It will be released on the Nintendo Wii on November 15th (US) and 18th (AUS) 2011. The 3DS version will be released sometime in February 2012 (US only)!

Key Features of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Sega’s Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, based on news and announcements made so far.
Confirmed Characters
Many characters and teams have been confirmed thus far.
On Mario’s team we have:
- All-Around: Mario, Luigi, Bowser Jr.
- Speed Type: Daisy, Yoshi.
- Power Type: Bowser, Wario, Donkey Kong.
- Skill Type: Peach, Waluigi.
On Sonic’s team:
- All-Around: Amy, Blaze.
- Speed Type: Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog, Metal Sonic.
- Power Type: Knuckles, Vector.
- Skill Type: Tails, Dr. Eggman, Silver the Hedgehog.
The Non-Playable Characters are:
- Bosses: Dry Bowser, Jet the Hawk.
- Referees: Toad, Espio the Chameleon.
- Other: Horse, Big Bullet Bill, Magikoopa, Mega Cheep-Cheep, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Goomba, Yoshis, Chain, Chomp, Monty Moles, Cows, Birdos.
Confirmed Sports
Different sports will be available to play on each platform.
On the Wii these will include:Football/Soccer, Equestrian, Athletics, 100m Sprint, Javelin Throw, Aquatics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Dream Events, Dream Long Jump, Dream Discus, Dream Equestrian, Canoeing, Beach Volleyball, Rhythmic Gymnastics.
On the 3DS these will include: 20km Race Walk, 1000m Kayak, Judo, 100m Breaststroke (Aquatics), Balance, Beam, 110m Hurdles, Badminton.
Locations
Like Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Dream Events will take place on areas from Mario and Sonic games. Five have been confirmed.
Mario Series:
- Yoshi’s Island: (Rail Lift) from Yoshi’s Story (Dream Long Jump).
- Battlerock Galaxy: from Super Mario Galaxy (Dream Hurdles).
- Moo Moo Meadows: from Mario Kart Wii (Dream Equestrian).
Sonic Series:
- Wind Valley: from Sonic Adventure (Dream Discus).
- Grand Metropolis: from Sonic Heroes (Dream Uneven Bars).
