This Ratchet & Clank preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from the upcoming role-playing game. It’s scheduled to be released January 2012 in the USA, for the PS3 and Xbox 360!

The upcoming, four-player cooperative, PS3 exclusive video game, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, will be released on October 18th (US), October 20th (AUS) and October 21st (EU) 2011. It is the tenth installment in the Ratchet & Clank series and will be the first PS3 title in the series that is not part of the “Future Trilogy.” It does however, take place after A Crack in Time.

The newest title looks to be full of comedic banter, not to mention plenty of action and hi-jinks!

Key Features of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One

Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One based on news and announcements made so far.

Multiplayer System
All 4 One adds a four-player drop-in drop-out co-op system to the classic Ratchet & Clank formula. The four players can be local, through the use of multiple controllers; online players, through the use of PlayStation Network; or, in the case of a single player, one AI character controlled by the CPU. Voice chat is supported.

To accommodate inexperienced players, All 4 One uses alerts to keep online players on the same page and avoid the frustration of trying to tell your clueless team members what to do. As players progress through the game, they build up a profile associated with their PSN ID.

“Director’s View”
The “director’s view” camera allows for more cinematic views than previous games, which Insomniac has named “cinematic co-op.” These cinematic sequences occur in “almost every level.”

Bolt Counter
While cooperative, gameplay can also be competitive. The bolt counter at the top right of the screen compares players’ individual bolt counts, fueling friendly rivalries and races to become the first owner of a new weapon. Death is penalized only with a small bolt penalty (40 bolts in the Luminopolis demo) and having to wait a few seconds to respawn.

New Art Style
All 4 One uses a different art style than previous PlayStation 3 titles. Objects and scenery take on a cartoony appearance, and the sizes of characters have been distorted. Clank for example, was the size of a backpack in previous titles, but is now taller and closer to Ratchet’s height. In addition, Ratchet lacks visible fur and Qwark’s head has shrunk considerably. Cell shading elements will not be making a return.
