This Spider-Man: Edge of Time preview gives a quick look at what can be expected from Beenox’s upcoming action-adventure, platform game!
Edge of time is set in the year 2099! Alchemax scientist Walter Sloan seeks to gain power and fortune by traveling back in time to the present day in order to utilize his knowledge of future technology. Through a sort of ‘ripple effect’, this causes the future of 2099 to change to a dystopia where Alchemax rules the world. Spider-Man 2099 is aware of the plan and discovers that Sloan’s actions are not only responsible for the radically altered timeline but will also cause the death of Peter Parker/Spider-Man at the hands of Anti-Venom!
This is the second Spider-Man title to be developed by Beenox, following Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions of 2010, and the game is due to hit the shelves on October 4th (US) and October 14th (EU) 2011.

Key Features of Spider-Man: Edge of Time
Here is a list of key elements that will be available in Beenox’s Spider-Man: Edge of Time, based on news and announcements made so far.
Beenox will supposedly be “recycling” Gameplay elements from their previous title Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions as well as integrating new gameplay mechanics in regards to the time travel theme.
Unlockable Costumes
Beenox has announced several different costumes will be available to unlock!
These costumes will collectively be available by ordering the game from Gamestop:
- The Identity Crisis
- Prodigy
- Hornet
- Dusk
- Ricochet
“Future Foundation” will be available to those who order an Amazon Exclusive copy of the game and “10 unidentified costumes” can be collectively unlocked via a Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions save file!
Time Travel & Cause and Effect
Players may collect “Chronal energy” in-game; this form of energy will allow for the generation of time paradox’s. In addition to this, Spider-Man will be able to communicate through time allowing the Amazing Spider-Man to help Spider-Man 2099 get out of a jam in the future.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Focus has been increased on Amazing Spider-Man’s “spider-sense” in this title. This improvement will allow ‘spidey’ to dodge and move more efficiently. Like in the previous title, He will still use web-based combat by combining his webs with the environment to create powerful weapons.
2099 Spider-Man
2099 Spider-Man has some amazing attributes that would even make his old-fashioned counterpart jealous! He, again, retains focus on Speed based combat with sky diving sequences and accelerated vision. He will also have to ability however to create a holographic body double using his technological powers. These doubles can be used for a short time, and by adding a “cloaking technology” he can draw attention away from himself allowing for a stealth attack or quick getaway.
Confirmed Characters
Beenox has confirmed the inclusion of 6 characters – three in each time set.
The Amazing set will feature:
- Spider-Man
- Anti-Venom
- Mary Jane Watson
The 2099 set will feature:
- Walter Sloane (game exclusive, main antagonist)
- Spider-Man 2099
- Black Cat 2099 (game exclusive)
