Resistance: Burning Skies Announced for PS Vita

Resistance: Burning Skies exclusively for PlayStation Vita was announced at Gamescom 2011 during Sony’s Press Conference.

The game is being developed by Nihilistic Softare (Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, Conan, Zombie Apocalypse, PlayStation Move Heroes) in cooperation with Insomniac Games.

The game will take place before the events of Resistance 2 and is set during 1951 on Ellis Island in New York.

This game looks like Resistance and will definitely impress as a first-person shooter. Thanks to the dual sticks on the PS Vita, it plays just like the console games!

Except use of the PS Vita features are a big focus for this game. One very cool moment in the demo footage was how you can look around the room when your character wakes up in the morgue by using the gyro motion sensing of the PS Vita (move the system to look around!)

Additionally, when using certain weapons you can, for example, “paint” the enemies you want to shoot by using the touchscreen, then press the button to fire and hit them all! Grenade-throwning is also mapped to the touchscreen. While you can use face buttons for controls, you can also map attack buttons to the touch screen. This allows you to cook grenades by mapping the grenade’s throwing direction on the touch screen and letting go after a second or so.

New weapons also make their debut in Resistance: Burning Skies such as a Chimeran Chaingun!
