Battlefield 3 will feature a Dynamic Dog Tags system that developer Dice has detailed.
Dog Tags are described as your “personal business card” in Battlefield 3, they are what you pridefully dangle in front of your dead or injured enemies and what you collect from your enemies as in-game trophies; giving the player bragging rights.
And in Battlefield 3 they’ve gone much further with Dog Tags and their role in the game, to quote DICE:
“Dog tags in Battlefield 3 go beyond just having your name on them,” says Alan Kertz, Senior Multiplayer Designer at DICE. “We have hundreds of dog tags that can be your personal calling card. Every time you kill an enemy, they see your tags. It’s your calling card – it’s your place to brag, and dynamic tags can show off how great you are with a knife, a jet, or even show off your personal play style.”
“When we introduced dog tags in Battlefield 2142, we immediately knew we’d turned the knife duel into something new and very personal. Now players could have a record of their humiliation takedowns, and players were striving to protect their neck.”
Dog Tags also make the proceedings more in-your-face and brutal than before, as performing a Knife Takedown is the only way to secure your enemy’s Dog Tag.
And Knife Kills are not easy to pull off, requiring stealth, as you must sneak up on your enemy from behind before delivering the killing blow. And since they are now more personalized, you’ll get a unique Dog Tag for each player you kill, and can see at-a-glance the veteran status (or lack thereof) of your opponent.
DICE goes on to praise the brutal looking Knife Kills, which use the new ANT Animation System.
“ANT technology allows us to make the knife takedown a truly immersive part of the physical Battlefield. Takedowns encourage players to get in there for stealth kills, and makes bringing a knife to a gun fight the risky but rewarding experience it was always meant to be.”

The Battlefield 3 release date is on October 25th in America and October 28th internationally for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
