Aliens: Infestation Announced For 3DS & DS

Aliens: Infestation has been announced for 3DS and regular DS as an intense side-scrolling shooter developed by WayForward in collaboration with Gearbox Software (most famous for Borderlands); who is currently working on an Aliens-based game of their own, the long-delayed Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The game will feature “large-scale versions of some of the most fan-beloved environments of the iconic films” as players are tasked with mowing down scores of Aliens of different types; playing as and recruiting up to 19 Marines. Each Marine will have their own unique dialog throughout the game and use weapons and tools pulled directly from the films. Iconic environments to explore will range from the Sulaco, the Derelict ship to the LV-426 planet itself.

All of the side-scrolling action, which looks beautiful and will definitely make Contra fans happy, takes place on the top screen, while the bottom touchscreen is used to manage your inventory and upgradeable weapons. Additionally, character designs were provided by comic book artist Chris Bachalo, probably best known for his work on Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman” spin-off series, known as “Death.”

“In contrast to our other Aliens title in the works at the moment, Aliens: Infestation delivers a game that focuses more on exploration of the expanded universe,” comments Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sega West. “WayForward really put all their passion into making Aliens: Infestation the definitive Aliens experience that you can fit in your pocket.”

WayForward is most well known as the studio behind a couple of great but extremely underrated, criminally low-selling, almost indie-like gems including the likes of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge for WiiWare (as well as the original for Game Boy Color), A Boy And His Blob for Wii, Contra 4 for DS, Sigma Star Saga for Game Boy Advance (kudos if you know this game. Major cookie points if you own it, like me), LIT for WiiWare, Mighty Flip Champs! for DSiWare, Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Videogame for Wii and DS, and the upcoming Silent Hill: Book Of Memories for PSVita and BloodRayne: Betrayal for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Sega will publish the game upon its release this September, a time when both Shinobi 3DS and Crush 3D for 3DS were originally scheduled for release, before both were delayed.

And now… for one of the greatest horror scenes of all time. The Alien Chestburster scene, extended cut. Blood and gore abound in the disturbing video, so viewer discretion is advised.
