32 Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure characters star in this action-adventure game. It will be released on September 27th, 2011 in America (October 14th in Europe) for Wii, 3DS, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
A loose spinoff of the Spyro series (although the Spyro title is really just for name-recognition, though Spyro is a main character, one of many), this unique title ships with three “toys” (more like statuettes with round platform bottoms) that players input into a “Portal of Power” that connects to their game system.
This allows you to play the game using one of 32 unique characters, whose Stats, Scores, Achievements, Level, etc. are saved onto the toy. You also can easily bring your character to a friend’s house by simply hauling the small toy over in your pocket. Because of the unique nature of Skylanders and how it uses toys and the Portal of Power accessory, Cross-Platform play is also featured, as you can input your toys no matter what console version you are playing and swap them in and out. When you are finished, all your stats will be saved onto your action figure!
This is definitely an interesting concept and looks insanely cool even to this 26 year-old. I only wish we had high-tech toys like this when I was a kid in the 80s!
Inputting a single toy will allow you to play through the single-player game with that character, whereas inputting two toys lets you play Versus or Co-Op.
The game is an action adventure title, and each character has their own unique abilities, moves and powers. You have primary and secondary attacks, and defeating monsters will earn you experience points allowing you to level-up, increasing your stats and earning upgrades. Characters also have elemental abilities or alignments. Each character will also tackle the game world in a different manner, giving lots of replayability to the title as you’ll want to try to play with all 32 different characters. And they are quite unique from each other, while some focus on melee attacks, others focus on ranged attacks or magic attacks, etc. Three toys come included with the game on launch, and others can be purchased separately in stores.
