Mortal Kombat 2011 Rain DLC Dated

One of the newest Mortal Kombat 2011 characters to join the roster will be Rain, whose downloadable content has a release date on July 19th for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The classic purple ninja from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy will join the already mightily impressive roster of 29 characters (including the recently released Kenshi and Skarlet DLC characters); bumping that up to an even-more-impressive 30 even!

Huzzah!

Here is the debut trailer for Rain.

Rain was one of my favorite characters in the N64 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy so I am delighted to see him return! Despite the fact that he only had 3 Special Moves, he was still a deadly combatant.
In MKT and UMK3 he only had three Special Moves.

One shot out a “Waterball” that would stun the opponent and allow you to move them anywhere in the vicinity for a few seconds, perfect for setting them on high so they would fall direclty on a roundhouse kick. As Rain’s roundhouse was unique, in that it would knock the opponent through the right or left of the screen where they would continue to the other side!

You could even combo several roundhouse kicks if you timed it right, causing your opponent to continously fly sideways through the screen! Fun times! Rain also had a deadly Lightning attack that summoned Lightning from on-high. Upon impact your oponent would shoot straight into the air.

His awesome Fatalities included a barrage of Lightning attacks, a really weird “Upside Down” Uppercut where your opponent would break into pieces upon the uppercut impact but fly upward, then the pieces would fall atop each other until the opponent was “put together” again but upside down… Last but not least, his Animality was a small Elephant who blew off the skin with his trunk, and his Friendship included a small storm dropping (what else?) rain to create a small field of flowers! I love Rain. 😀

This video shows Rain’s classic Fatalities.

Now that you are familiar with his awesomeness (in case you had forgotten), Rain in Mortal Kombat 2011 will retain his full control over the element of water, and will be able to use the Waterball ability to levitate his opponents upon its imact. Awesome! He also retains his Lightning Blast attack. Like all the characters, he will come complete with a full unique move set and Finishers as well.

Rain will cost you $5 on PS3 or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360. Those who bought a Season Pass ($15) for the Xbox 360 version will get Rain for free as part of the packaged deal (which included Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain and a still-unannounced fourth fighter).

Who is your favorite male ninja from the Mortal Kombat universe?
