PlayStation Vita Has Amazing Facial Recognition Software

Face Control using PSVita Facial Recognition Technology during video chat
The PlayStation Vita will be pushing facial recognition features when the system launches sometime next year, Sony confirmed at the Game Tools and Middleware event in Tokyo, Japan.

This is the same event where the PSP Engine and PlayView Update were announced.

Sony showed off how you could use the facial recognition of the PSVita to make your avatars show facial expressions just like your own while doing video chat. This new feature is apparently being called “Face Control”, and Sony hopes to move beyond just video chat and into the realm of using your face to control videogames.

An interesting, and kinda strange, proposition!

Here is video of Face Control in action.

The chat windows you see are being generated by the Vita in realtime. Sony stressed that at the current time there are no plans to convert the Face Control demo into an actual product.

But they always say that… Either way its some interesting technology.
